  16. @mostapplethingofall RAID 5 is good, as you set up 4 drives, 3 striped, with parity. you get 3/4 the space and can loose any one drive... the prob is raid 5 now sucks, as raid 5 arrays take time to rebuild after a drive failure, and the stats are like 50% chance of a second drive dropping during rebuild on a large drive array (ex 2tb)

Wednesday, 22-Aug-12 06:25:39 UTC from web in context
  17. @mostapplethingofall raid 1 is a "mirror" and very safe, but you only get 1/2 the size ex. a 2 disk array 1tb each will only give 1tb.

Wednesday, 22-Aug-12 06:20:33 UTC from web in context
  18. @mostapplethingofall Yep! its super cool on SSD's as reliability is not a problem, and data is striped across all 10 disks, so data can be read, and written simultaneity across the 10 disks

Wednesday, 22-Aug-12 06:17:48 UTC from web in context
  19. @mostapplethingofall the more disks the scarier the array, EX. a 10 disk array if any of the 10 disks die the whole array will fail.

  20. @mostapplethingofall the one that is a simple striped volume.. gives most space and speed, but is VERY dangerous... All a pun of coarse.

  21. @purple and all RDN data is stored safely on a 5 year-old 10 disk RAID 0 array

  22. @purple And RDN in a CSV file amuses me.

  23. @purple (last resort) most CSV import utility's give complete flexibility as to where and how the data is placed in to a database.

  24. @stumpy All programs love to turn SQL in to CSV files

  25. @purple all else fails you can CSV it :)

  26. @purple I have used a few database conversion utility's for grade book change overs, they usually arn't 2 bad, as once you have the structure, all the data is the same.

  27. A recode that pushes changes in data instead of a whole page, will make a world of difference to the poor web servers

Wednesday, 22-Aug-12 06:00:49 UTC from web
  28. @purple Just SQL it, and pull out later it will take time, but it will work well in the background
