@scribus One showed up to work fifteen minutes late yesterday and said “I’m sick and can’t work today” then left. The other one’s been walking around the parking lot asking customers for money, then lied to me when I asked him about it, then kept lying to me when I said I saw him do it.

@scribus Well, if they *were* sick... Physically or mentally. I've called out sick from the parking lot because I felt like another 8 hours on the job would end up cut short (across the wrist).

@mrmattimation I do feel such a split over term limits. On the one hand, damn re-election, do your job! On the other, I'd hate to see the effects of the loss of the "elder statesperson." So, I usually feel like limits in certain, very key positions (DEFINITELY president!) are just about mandatory, but in others... I just don't know.

@mrmattimation These ones? No. But, when it comes to having connections, the ephemeral "I know a guy" moments that get jammed gears turning again, it can still become a high price to pay. I don't have The Answers, but I like to try considering all angles and long-term outcomes. It's why I spend so many decisive moments paralyzed! :D . . . wait, that actually sucks...

Is there a strategy game out there that basically puts you in the shoes of a politician? Like you have to get support from factions and deal with oppositions and run a government and whatnot? That sounds like something I could play for years

@tiff @scribus thanks, admittedly I don’t 100% know what’s going to happen, it’s a friend I know through work and I found out about it through an announcement that was made to the management team about it. I don’t know how serious it is, if it’s treatable, etc. etc. Maybe I’m overreacting. Maybe this ends up being nothing after a round of chemo and a surgery. I hope that’s the case but I know almost nothing about it and I’m supposed to be pretend everything’s normal.

@mrmattimation i don't think there's any one (or really any at all) appropriate emotional response to something like that. even if the odds are favourable it puts the transience of those you care about into harrowing perspective
