@mrmattimation I ended up not moving, but if @astah is still interested & hasn't made his acquaintance, @foxgopher lives out that way.
-
@astah ah yeah xD I think for me if I ever teach it will be French and Italian, but I might have to learn Spanish to be marketable out here. I moved to the east coast when I was young and there a teacher can get work with just French.

@astah teachers and social workers don't get paid as much, but we do have the advantage when it comes to finding a job and having job security :D
-
@astah yeah BYU's business school and nursing programs are pretty good too. When employers ask me why I'm an italian major I explain that I just love it and BYU's program is world class, that it helps me understand people and cultures etc.. I hope to ultimately go into Social Work, but first I'm going to take a break from school and get more work related experience maybe. I volunteer and I work at a boarding school for developmentally challenged boys.

@astah it's all about the piece of paper really. that opens doors, but real skill comes with experience and determination. I actually won't be using my italian for what I'd like to do as a career
-
@astah I hadn't thought of it that way, but I think you're totally right.

@astah oh! my wife and I play on Neopets! lol I studied VA at first because I was trying to get into the animation program here. It's been called the best in the US by John Lasseter. After 3 years of failing to get in I gave up and switched to CS, then to Italian shortly after. (I have a love-hate relationship with programming.) My emphasis in art therefore is on animation you could say, but also Italian art history, particularly Baroque period art in Spain, France, and Italy above all else.
-
@astah Neopets is still a thing?
-
@astah so true! I'm a computer science and visual arts minor so I like to think of myself as well rounded.. or I would except it feels like I've taken WAY too long to graduate. xP
-
@astah ah that would make sense! "Acido" is acid in common italian after all.
-
@astah I'm out here for school :) my wife goes to UVU and I attend BYU
-
@astah xD I lived in Sicily for a year and heard what might be that one. I don't actually know the Sicilian spelling though xD It reminds me of accita. I remember it used ans an exclamation
-
@astah there we go. Italian, ah? My favorite Italian... though I guess it's technically Sicillian phrase is "agitta" (i'm probably totally misspelling that... i'm a very creative speller.... :P )
-
@astah busybusybusy. Like Twilight indeed. I'm an Italian major currently.. eternal undergrad :P
-
@astah sounds exhausting. xP I live in Provo myself.
-
@astah what grades do you teach?
-
@astah Is it funning if it's not fun?
-
@astah I don't feel like typing a long-winded response to this, so I'll let you win or whatever.
-
@astah That's stereotyping hipsters and I would hate a sub more if they made that joke. if you haven't embraced the fact that there are some very stupid kids in the world, I don't know what to tell you but to leave teaching because you obviously have little place in it. How can you even prove that only 2 students got the joke?
-
@astah to be fair, it's not a funny joke
-
@astah Ack >< yeah running on no sleep is never fun man, i guess it can't be helped sometimes though :(
-
@astah Oh, those are always fun x-x
-
