  1. it bugs me when people mact like passing gay rights is imposing secular morals onto them. it's like a doorway more than anything else. when opened, passage through the door is voluntary. you can choose not to if you do not wish to or if it just isn't your thing. when closed, it is mandatory that nobody can pass through.

    1. @adrianbrony I don't even really understand how gay marriage is a particularly secular moral.

      1. @ceruleanspark well, in the united states, where the majority of citizens subscribe to a belief system that expressly forbids it, it pretty much is considered as such. and proponents are working the angle that passing it is simply so the beliefs of one group won't deny rights to people who do not believe that.

        1. @adrianbrony I have never had a person who has espoused this belief be able to quote any particular passage barring gay marriage. I have heard arguments that it stems from ambiguities induced in the translation and does not exist in the source text at all.

          1. @ceruleanspark like I said, belief system. they don't want to admit it, but their beliefs HAVE changed over time.

          2. @ceruleanspark it's a retcon sort of thing. as soon as it becomes overwhelming public opinion that some part of their belief system is bigotry, the majority of the followers of that belief, usually within a generation, will act as if they always felt that way since the very beginning, because they will believe so. the human brain is a fickle structure. one could say it has an ego all its own
