I'm a little nervous about switching pills. They're both SSRI's so I shouldn't get SSRI discontinuation syndrome, (In fact, the two I'm switching between are in fact used interchangably by doctors to wean someone off of the other) but still, I'm concerned about the trade-over period whilst the citalopram gets up to a viable dosage in my brain. Fluoxetine has a long half life though, so maybe it'll work out OK.

@ceruleanspark I just hope nothing bad happens... It'd be terrible to lose you, and many a pony would be deeply stricken.

@lightningcrash I'm concerned because some of the consequences of SSRI discontinuation syndrome never go away. Lovely things like lifelong orgasmic anhedonia or untreatable impotence.

@ceruleanspark You have to take an SSRI? Ick. Easily my least favorite class of prescription drug ever. Glad I got off of them years ago...

@rnbwdashiswin I have a NEW SSRI now. I thought the Fluoxetine was working well, but it seems to have rebounded or something and for the past week my default response to stress has been "better kill myself".

@ceruleanspark Hmm... I was given I was given Sertraline (later changed to Paroxetine) for a time several years ago, along with Methylfinidate... all that ever did was make me worse. So one day I decided "no more" and stopped.

@rnbwdashiswin I think it depends a lot on your individual brain. My girlfriend is worlds better on Sertraline than off, and I know another person who's improved a lot since they got on it. Fluoxetine WAS helping me, but it suddenly stopped for some reason. Maybe this'll be better. There's plenty of chemicals out there for me to try.

@rotation Well I did some reading, and you can wean yourself off one and onto the other as part of the cessation process, so I guess I won't get withdrawals as part of the switch.
-
@ceruleanspark Should be fine... at the worst, you'll probably just feel a tad nauseous for a week or so...

@pawnheart But, as you say, they're both from the same "family", so there shouldn't really be too much of an adverse affect.

@pawnheart Yeah. Some of the side effects of Citalopram look more entertaining though.
-
@ceruleanspark Citalopram was the first one they put me on... and while it became apparent that it wasn't actually appropriate for my condition, It wasn't noticably detrimental either. Unlike Fluoxetine.

@pawnheart I think Citalopram and Fluoextine are their "go-to SSRI's". I think Sertraline is an older drug that they try to avoid prescribing as much these days.
-
@ceruleanspark Yeah, they seem to be the common two. Still, I know folk for whom Citalopram really helped.

@ceruleanspark Btw... if you need to see a counsellor sooner (they seem to have a fair but of pull with GPs, by the way, who can often have a 'refer-to-textbook-as-necessary' way of dealing with mental health), there is always the private option, and I can recommend you a very good one in Loughborough. There are a fair few other options I know are available around Leicester, and probably much closer to you, as well... It is quite feasible that charges can be recouped through an HC2 preclusion, if you are struggling with costs.

@rotation I am not. I have to work tomorrow too.
-
@rotation Really? At this stage?
-
@rotation I know, I was surprised too. I think your GP may be playing it a little safe. Still, 2 months is actually pushing you close to the top of the waiting list, believe it or not. The NHS is just crap at maintaining mental health services. If there's a cancellation, you may very well find you see someone sooner, as well.

@rotation I think you have a skewed view of the worlds priorities when it comes to my general well being.
-
@ceruleanspark Well, hopefully soon enough, you'll find once more that not everyone is as dickish and incompetent as the people who seem to dictate things to you at the moment.
