    1. @takeshitakenji Archlinux? Is that any good? I don't think I've heard much about it (I'm new to Linux).

      1. @eaglehooves If you're new to Linux, you probably want to avoid it. While the wiki is exceedingly helpful, there's a lot of manual work done in the beginning. The upside is that with its rolling releases, not only are you always kept up to date, but there are never hugely-breaking changes typical of OSes that have 'huge' releases periodically like Ubuntu, Fedora, and so on.

        1. @takeshitakenji I'm running Win 7 and Mint on my laptop at the moment. Mint is kinda big, but it's been good to learn with so far. My roommate wants to re-purpose an old desktop of mine into a Linux data server, and I've talked about trying Linux for awhile, so I figured I'd start easy.

          1. @eaglehooves I haven't even booted into Windows 7 at home in a year, so with this desktop upgrade I've dumped it entirely.

            1. @takeshitakenji I would do that, but some of my university software is Windows only, and I really don't want to try and run it all through Wine. I want to ditch Windows, but I've built up too much stuff I don't want to have to re-install on a tight schedule. Next computer, it's Mint or Ubuntu from the start.

              1. @eaglehooves Wine should probably work fine. Actually, I recommend PlayOnLinux (or it's OSX counterpart, PlayOnMac) for it's ease of use.

                1. @xtux345 It probably would, but with installs on Windows that work, I really don't want to fight ITS for more keys.
