So my friend just got it into his head to install Linux Mint so he can "learn to hack". I'm going along with it for now. Let's see how it goes.

@lilytheamazingfaintingpony Lol tell your friend, step one to hacking... don't tell everyone your hacking. It usually works out better in the end. also a Livecd distro of Linux is a nice middle ground for the whole "trying it out" thing.
-
@nlghtmaremoon Step one of hacking is realising that basically nobody calls it hacking.
-
@lilytheamazingfaintingpony Mint is hardly for hackers. It's a great alternative to Windows, but all the computer majors I know are using stuff further off the beaten path.
-
@ceruleanspark Step two is defining hacking, since "hacking" could honestly mean anything in the computer world.
-
@ceruleanspark So all those cyberpunk novels I read are not teaching me to hack? William Gibson, you have deceived me!
-
@ceruleanspark Thats like step 3 after don't tell the world, and don't use youtube as a guide.
-
@lilytheamazingfaintingpony If Ratchet & Clank taught me anything, it's that hacking consists of rolling balls into place so that an electric spark can use them as a bridge to make it to its destination.
-
@eaglehooves Eh, he had to start somewhere.
-
@redenchilada You got one word right.
-
@lilytheamazingfaintingpony Yea, Mint was my intro to Linux as well. Aside from it being on a 5400rpm drive, I quite like how it runs, and if it weren't for a driver issue I'd toss my copy of Win 7 and put it on the big drive pretty quick. I just refuse to define it as "hacking".
-
@eaglehooves I think you misunderstod me. Linux has been, for me, the way I taught myself to become a mediocre computer user instead of a completely non-technical computer user. He's been inspired
-
@lilytheamazingfaintingpony That, and the latest issue of Linux Format has an article called "how to hack". I think that is just as much of the reason why he installed MInt.
-
@lilytheamazingfaintingpony More power to him for that, I guess I've always considered "hacking" something different. More along the lines of "How did you get my password?!" and other things you shouldn't be doing.
-
@eaglehooves That *is* his goal. He wants to learn stuff he shouldn't. He is just starting with figuring out his own pc first.
-
@lilytheamazingfaintingpony #hugs Hay buddy. ^.^
-
@lightningcrash Hi, how're things? ^_^
-
@lilytheamazingfaintingpony Depends. Have you recieved any intercontinental mail recently?
-
@lightningcrash funny you should say that. I had forgotten to check the mail today, and there it was. Reading it now.
-
