  1. Home cooking is killing the restaurant industry! This is an equivalent argument as to why torrenting is bad

    1. @purplephish20 a better comparison would be panic that thousands of mechanics sharing the same single toolbox is killing the relevant manufacturers who make said tools.

    2. @purplephish20 Well, piracy IS technically stealing. Nobody really cares, though.

      1. @redenchilada piracy is making a copy you weren't supposed to make. it's not going to make hasbro all that happy, but it isn't exactly stealing.

      2. @redenchilada It's like stealing what someone's saying while standing on a soapbox. You can't expect people not to copy womething when it's not physical.

        1. @nerthos Personally, I consider software to be a service. If I'm not satisfied, I'm not giving them my money. If I am, I am! I honestly try to limit what I pirate.

          1. @redenchilada I try to buy whatever stuff I like and they sell in a way I can use. Some things I don't buy because I would be forced to use services like Steam, or login to servers to be able to play offline games.

            1. @nerthos You know, Steam is actually a really good client for games.

              1. @redenchilada I dislike it greatly. It's a really good way to waste resources and limit freedom over files and bug solving by forcing the user to run that thing while playing.

                1. @nerthos The steam CDN is amazing though, I very much prefer buying games on steam Vs. buying a hardcopy.

                  1. @minti Every time I want to install on another computer, I have to download the whole thing again. I preffer to be careful with a DVD than to wait 14 hours for a game I own to download.

                    1. @nerthos True xD But even with stream, you can make your own install CDs out of downloaded content. I usually do that.

                      1. @minti Downloading cracked ISOs is so more practical. It's funny how the illegal alternative is better than the legal one.

                        1. @nerthos That's usually the case with DRM. Lol, next thing you know all music is going to be on hardware-locked USB flash drive type things.

                          1. @minti Yeah, and it will be cracked by people like me, out of hatred for their irritating ways.

Wednesday, 14-Mar-12 18:45:24 UTC from web
                            1. @nerthos xD Yeah, there's always a way around DRM. As I know how to actually MAKE the cracks that people post on TPB etc, I can say with confidence that it'll be hard to stop anyone who wants your files, even if they're protected by DRM.

                              1. @minti The obvious solution is to go the OnLive route and force every bit of data ever to stream from a server. Herp.

                    2. @nerthos Why would you install games on more than one computer anyway?

Wednesday, 14-Mar-12 18:47:12 UTC from StatusNet Android
                      1. @redenchilada One desktop and one portable. Also upgrading. And the fact that I use a computer and my brother other.

              2. @redenchilada Hey you. What's this sites policy on bots.

Wednesday, 14-Mar-12 18:38:04 UTC from web
                1. @minti I've enforced it as "as long as they're following the rules, it's fine." Sometimes we'll sandbox certain ones depending on purpose, but they're generally ok.

                  1. @redenchilada Okay. Just wondering cause, I made a bot to welcome # cause I was bored. xD

                    1. @minti Something like that would be fine! I personally can't wait to see it welcome spambots. (I do hope there's some variety in the messages, though~)

                      1. @redenchilada Hm. It's a preset message right now, I should make it pull messages from MySQL and make a web interface lolol xD
