    1. @techdisk42 I personally prefer my rather more customized install. :D http://ur1.ca/8we1g

      1. @spectrumscramble ... howd you get it like that? mine is all sucky and small...

Tuesday, 03-Apr-12 20:15:27 UTC from web
        1. @techdisk42 I'll post my config up in a little bit, but you should probably be aware that the notices continuing at the same indent level is 1) still only in the git version, and 2) still a little glitchy (hence point 1). Everything else should look the same, though.

          1. @spectrumscramble ok. ill probably get it better once i see a completed config. im better at editing through a text editor, not with commands >_<

            1. @techdisk42 Gonna throw it on gist.github probably, since I think I can annotate the various lines there, to better explain how the various settings contribute (or don't, in the case of the ones that are just my personal preferences for other settings) toward the result in the image I posted. *goes off to do that*

              1. @spectrumscramble ok then! i think im getting the hang of the commands for replying and stuff. heh, minecraft's usage of the chatbox trained me for this.

                1. @techdisk42 Hehe, yeah. It's pretty similar in execution (though the direct inspiration actually came from vim). One helpful rule of thumb is that pretty much all the frequently used commands with hotkeys live on the left side of a QWERTY-layout keyboard (d = reply, e = repeat/redash, f = favourite, c = view context, and a/s for moving the selector (*) up and down to change which notice those hotkeys apply to). :)

                  1. @techdisk42 And believe me, for pretty much anything which is hotkeyed, the hotkey is _much_ more pleasant.

                  2. @spectrumscramble Hm, i already like this. its much faster! only downside is no link clicking and no pics. im also guessing i can get my window larger, right? im using windows right now, and the text window is puny.

Tuesday, 03-Apr-12 20:32:26 UTC from IdentiCurse
                    1. @techdisk42 Windows command prompt is made of cherries, but yes, you can get the window bigger by right-clicking the titlebar, and finding the window size settings (possibly in the second tab? don't recall right now), though pdcurses (the curses implementation it uses on Windows) doesn't pick up on the new size until _next_ time you open it. Go figure.

                      1. @spectrumscramble Yeah, i hate windows for most command line stuff. unfourtunately, i have to do some homework that requires windows, so i'm stuck until i'm done and can go on linux.

Tuesday, 03-Apr-12 20:37:29 UTC from IdentiCurse
                    2. @techdisk42 Also, if you're on Windows, you're actually a version behind, because I haven't been on my Windows box recently, and so haven't done a build of the new version. Will get on that later tonight, hopefully.

                      1. @spectrumscramble damn. well, i guess its a good thing i finally installed ubuntu on this laptop like ive been meaning to do since sony replaced my hard drive.

Tuesday, 03-Apr-12 20:39:25 UTC from IdentiCurse
                      2. @spectrumscramble I got it to be bigger, but it really just zoomed in... where is the setting for "lines displayed"?

Tuesday, 03-Apr-12 20:46:43 UTC from IdentiCurse
                        1. @techdisk42 Not at all sure without having my Windows system in front of me right now (which I don't) to look. I'll get back to you on that once I'm on it (later).

Tuesday, 03-Apr-12 20:49:10 UTC from web
                          1. @spectrumscramble ok then! ill try looking through the setup files, logic usually has helped me find the correct settings in the past! (thank you minecraft server setup!)

Tuesday, 03-Apr-12 20:50:21 UTC from IdentiCurse
                      3. @spectrumscramble How do i set the number of lines of text displayed? i did get the window bigger, but its still showing the same amount of text.

Tuesday, 03-Apr-12 20:47:56 UTC from IdentiCurse
                        1. @techdisk42 If it's already showing 20 or so, though, that would be more likely to be because the status.net API limits public timeline requests to 20 notices, for no apparent reason.

Tuesday, 03-Apr-12 20:50:39 UTC from web
                          1. @spectrumscramble hm, mines showing about 20 rows of text... logic tells me to find a setting that says "20" and has something to do with the word "lines"

Tuesday, 03-Apr-12 20:52:46 UTC from IdentiCurse
                            1. @techdisk42 Hm, I think I'm misunderstanding exactly what you're asking. Any chance you could post a screenshot of how it currently looks, so I have a better idea what's going on?

                              1. @spectrumscramble No prob! here ya go! my problem is the fact theres only enough space to see two dashes... http://ur1.ca/8wejq

                                1. @techdisk42 I guess that is quite the 'curse'. -rimshot-

Tuesday, 03-Apr-12 21:00:04 UTC from web
                                2. @techdisk42 Ah, yeah. For now, editing your config.json to add '"compact_notices": true' and '"show_source": false' should help _a lot_, then I can help with actually making the window bigger once I get on my Windows box (probably in an hour or two).

Tuesday, 03-Apr-12 21:00:12 UTC from IdentiCurse
                                3. @techdisk42 Not sure off-hand where config.json lives on Windows, but I have a strong feeling it's somewhere under C:\Users\YOURUSERNAME\.identicurse (again, will check to be certain when on Windows).

Tuesday, 03-Apr-12 21:01:24 UTC from IdentiCurse
                                  1. @spectrumscramble its fine, i found the file. Ive had alot of experience having to edit things like these from a Minecraft Bukkit server i used to run. by celestia, those .yml files were KILLER!

Tuesday, 03-Apr-12 21:02:49 UTC from IdentiCurse
                                    1. @techdisk42 YAML files are nice, except for the caveat that indentation makes a HUGE difference to how they get read in, so you have to be careful with that.

Tuesday, 03-Apr-12 21:04:39 UTC from IdentiCurse
                                      1. @spectrumscramble yeah, the fact notepad++ has a "convert tabs to spaces" button was a lifesaver for me. also, the config additions worked pretty well, but its still being annoying with line numbers... how do you expand it in linux? do you just resize the window?

Tuesday, 03-Apr-12 21:07:00 UTC from IdentiCurse
                                        1. @techdisk42 Yep, all Linux terminals I've seen are sane enough that just resizing the window is enough.

Tuesday, 03-Apr-12 21:08:49 UTC from IdentiCurse
                                          1. @spectrumscramble Well, i finally got windows to work properly. its almost like you have to baby windows along to do things properly... http://ur1.ca/8wesq

Tuesday, 03-Apr-12 21:35:09 UTC from web
                                            1. @techdisk42 Neat! You could also use the "length_override" config setting to force the input box to be a little smaller, if you feel it's taking up too much room for you (that makes the box as small as it can be while still having enough room for as many characters as the number you gave for "length_override"; I use 280, for example).

Tuesday, 03-Apr-12 21:42:27 UTC from IdentiCurse
                                              1. @spectrumscramble im likin this more and more! having the input smaller is better, lol im not gonna be writing essays in here! :3 This could also be good if it worked at school, as it is alot less conspicous than the RDN page.

Tuesday, 03-Apr-12 21:46:43 UTC from IdentiCurse
                                              2. @spectrumscramble it also works amazing with a tweak for windows that i use. it allows me to pin windows to always be on top. (its called deskpins, for anypony who wants it)

Tuesday, 03-Apr-12 21:53:10 UTC from IdentiCurse
                                        2. @techdisk42 Right click the title bar of the command window> Properties > Layout > Screen Buffer Size

Tuesday, 03-Apr-12 21:09:55 UTC from web
                                          1. @minti Thanks! this actually worked! you have to change "window buffer size" though, not screen buffer.

        1. @the20percent Yes indeedy. (With some big and some small config changes, but it's still the same program.)
