  1. Im thinking that backing up using DVD-Rs isnt the best idea and Im better off with an external hard drive. does anyone here use one? Is it worth the money? Because backing up using DVDs is just trouble...

    1. @purplephish20 I _had_ one until I stepped on the base and mangled the connectors. It's well worth the money for the space you typically get.

            1. @purplephish20 I shop Newegg a lot for my computer stuff. I'm seeing 1TB externals for about $100 (us).

                1. @purplephish20 Actually, scratch that, they don't ship outside North America. Still, they're a fair price to compare to.

        2. @purplephish20 You should, obviously, have at least as much memory in your external as that of any drives you plan to back up to it combined. You oughta go twice that just for safety. I personally have (had) a 2TB.

          1. @redenchilada wow... thats a lot... my computer can hold 750gb, and considering its pretty much new its only using about 120gb so far... unless im mistaken

            1. @purplephish20 You need to be prepared, though. You might fill that drive at some point, and you want a backup. Most backup routines also go back a few revisions, necessitating extra space.

    2. @purplephish20 I have one, and it's great. I have auto-backups every 24 hours, so everything is always current. I have 400Gb of stuff lost 3 files when my HDD burned out.
