I kind of hate the fact that the War Doctor doesn't technically count as a regeneration.

@bronyscout Well he actually does, Capaldi is, currently, the last regeneration. Unless the Doctor gets more then it ends with Capaldi
-
@scoot Capaldi is the 12th doctor and the 13 regeneration thing was sort of recanted when David Tennant regenerated and put the energy into his severed hand. So including the war doctor, Capaldi would be the 14th regeneration the doctor has had.
-
@bronyscout Wow what? No he has definitely not regenerated 14 times. Let me find the quotes from Moffat on the situation
-
@scoot 13th i mean. Sorry. I did the math wrong. lol
-
@bronyscout "Ok, so does that mean that Peter Capaldi’s Doctor (the 12th Doctor) still has a regeneration left if we’re not counting John Hurt? Because according to a Tom Baker story The Deadly Assassin the Doctor can regenerate only 12 times and have 13 bodies.
Er, no.
‘Paul McGann turns into John Hurt so they’re not the same incarnation,’ said Moff. ‘He used up another regeneration and I’ll expect he’ll be in trouble shortly – you can’t break rules laid down in The Deadly Assassin.’ - Moffat
So John Hurt isn’t a numbered Doctor but he still used up a regeneration. And Peter Capaldi is the last one – unless someone decides to re-write everything all over again." -
@scoot wow the formatting has stayed, that's excellent.
-
@scoot John Hurts doctor's regeneration was brought on artificially and it has been claimed that a whole new cycle of 13 regenerations can be created if brought on artifically.
-
@bronyscout *artificially.
-
@bronyscout Well considering that disagrees with what Moffat has specifically stated and he's sort of in charge I don't see how you can say that.
-
@scoot Moffat didn't create the original rules
-
@bronyscout No but he is in charge right now, whether or not you agree with his rules it doesn't matter, what he says goes.
-
@scoot I never said I disagreed with his rules. Im just sayin that it's weird that a variation of the 9th doctor is kind of strange. But its a good strange.
-
@bronyscout It's actually considered to be a whole new regeneration, just not a numbered one, so as to not mess up the whole number system, so he's called "The War Doctor" instead of "9" or "8.5" or whatever.
-
@scoot That's why I called him a variation. The 9th doctor is the post-war doctor.
-
@bronyscout He's not a variation at all though, it's like calling Tennant the "Post 9th doctor". He is his own man the same as the rest.
-
@scoot I'm not disagreeing with you, but the flow of regeneration was kind of interrupted when John Hurt was introduced as the Doctor. If he was the Doctor from a different timeline, it would make a little more sense taking into account that Peter Capaldi's doctor wouldn't exist unless a new regeneration cycle was introduced.
