  1. If Macklemore ignored @rarity's awesome puns he'd be MackleRDN

    1. @rarity if macklemore wasn't as witty as you he'd be lacklemore.

      1. @awlderpy the knife I ordered came today. Its dull. ;;

        1. @rarity what material is the blade

Saturday, 18-Jan-14 00:45:35 UTC from web
          1. @awlderpy stainless steel, but I don't have it at work so I cant tell you the grade now.

            1. @rarity get anything for grinding/sharpening? Likely not but any steel/whetstone will do

              1. @awlderpy none at all. The internet says that the bottom of a ceramic coffee cup can do in a pinch. Does that sound like BS?

                1. @rarity in a pinch maybe what are you planning to use it for exactly?

Saturday, 18-Jan-14 00:57:51 UTC from web
                  1. @awlderpy I bought it just because I wanted it, because Karambits are really cool. Even though its designed to be a self defense weapon, I'd like to at least use it for basic utility purposes.

                    1. @rarity well for utilitarian purposes it can be ok to use any slightly abrasive surface but it'll take a good while to get it nice and sharp. Steels and stones give you degrees more or less for finite point of sharpness.

                      1. @awlderpy maybe I'll invest in a whetstone then. Or maybe I'll spend more than $12 on a knife next time, heh

                        1. @rarity most knives don't come well sharpened especially through any medium where it'd have to be shipped.

                          1. @awlderpy I suppose that makes sense.

                            1. @rarity to a weirdo like myself no blade is perfectly sharp until s/he makes it so.

Saturday, 18-Jan-14 01:06:30 UTC from web
                              1. @awlderpy I'd like one sharp enough to do that thing where they throw a tomato at the blade, and the tomato slices cleanly in half

Saturday, 18-Jan-14 01:08:10 UTC from web
                                1. @rarity well that's as much force as it is sharpness. A finite blade is what gives you the cut without said force. You'll need to practise knife-throwing for that.

    3. @rancidrob if I ever want a good one I'll invest in a non-Chinese professional Karambit

Saturday, 18-Jan-14 01:14:19 UTC from web

          1. @awlderpy started as an Indonesian implement for threshing rice, quickly adapted to a combat weapon and spread throughout southeast Asia.
