@nerthos True story. Dang partisan politics.

Through reall there was no other way for politics to go I think, but I still remain non-partisan myself personally, or I will until I feel a compelling reason to do otherwise, maybe to participate more in primaries.

@pony how about a no party system and people actually vote on the issues
Monday, 24-Feb-14 04:32:04 UTC from web-
@rarity That would be nice. There are plenty who treat party lines like they're nothing but still remain members of one or the other in order to gain majority support. It's unfortunately just the way politics go these days.

@pony yeah, that's pretty much it. It's a terrible system but good luck getting it to change. Oh well, there are /worse/ ways to do it I suppose. Doesn't mean I have to like it though

@rarity That would honestly be even worse, as bad as parties are. Nobody would get enough votes, and the only widely known candidates would be those who can buy airtime. It'd be going from kiwi tier to cherries under bare foot tier.

@nerthos >those who can buy airtime
>implying that's different from how it is nowMonday, 24-Feb-14 04:43:59 UTC from web-
@rarity It's true to an extent today, but it would be seriously worsened. Plus it'd be far harder to do background checks on candidates, so people would know even less about who they're voting for.

@nerthos I guess it wouldn't be better

@rarity The whole unqualified vote idea is bad from the start. No matter the implementation, it'll always go wrong. If the candidates are smart enough, they'll be able to convince big sectors of the population to vote for them. If they're dumb, they won't be able to do their job. It's bad either way.
