Re: Re: I want to see some of your sculptures. :3

@clayinthecarpet They're nothing fantastic. I've only done academic figure studies, but I've worked with clay, wax, bronze, resin, and alternative media

@pony Nice! You beat my experience, easily. XD
Saturday, 01-Mar-14 04:30:35 UTC from web-
@clayinthecarpet Well most of my experience with those began and ended with an intro to figure sculpting course that I took. Some, like clay, I've worked with from high school, but I don't have adequate space to set up anything at home sadly. Hence the sculpey. And you're right about it being crappy without a skeleton. I think my next attempt I'll actually make sticks from the sculpey itself to use for limbs.

@pony Not to intrude on your ideas of personal space/creativity, but I have very little space to work with (as I have an apartment deposit to worry about, IE: quality of the carpet when/if I leave) and I can still create stuff like this with the right clay in my hands: http://ur1.ca/get1b

@clayinthecarpet Yeah it's mostly the mess I worry about. Maybe I'll switch once my sculpey supply is nearly depleted. I also like not having to cast a mold, etc. in order to keep it, nor paint it much beyond a few details.
Saturday, 01-Mar-14 04:47:42 UTC from web-
@pony But...casting a mold helps you to keep your details/paint consistent. I think you're misinterpreting the method of creation.
Saturday, 01-Mar-14 04:49:17 UTC from web-
@clayinthecarpet If I wanted to reproduce the sculpture then definitely. In fact, I could create a mold to use with sculpey. That's actually a nice idea.
Saturday, 01-Mar-14 04:58:34 UTC from web-
@pony Silicone and latex are both nice ideas as long as you know how to use each.
Saturday, 01-Mar-14 04:59:53 UTC from web-
@clayinthecarpet I'd need something into which I could press the sculpey firmly without losing the shape. Aren't those flexible? Or how would you use them with sculpey?
Saturday, 01-Mar-14 05:05:36 UTC from web-
@pony Aluminum wire is extremely cheap. Travel down to Ben Franklin's and buy some wire or product that is non-applicable for whatever process.

@clayinthecarpet PS. - They aren't mine. XD

@pony I can send you some human body images to examine if you're interested.

@pony Sculpey is not reliable.
Saturday, 01-Mar-14 05:14:09 UTC from web-
@clayinthecarpet I'm thinking that it would be easy to use with a plaster mold maybe. Eventually I'll move away from sculpey. I just don't want to call it quits after only 1 real attempt. Plus, I feel like working with a less dependable medium will only make me better in the future.
Saturday, 01-Mar-14 05:26:33 UTC from web-
@pony Nah. If you knew how much I relied on others, you wouldn't compare yourself so harshly.
Saturday, 01-Mar-14 05:28:15 UTC from web -
@pony I sculpt my clay into my own form, drive 100 miles southwest, then have a friend mold it for mne
Saturday, 01-Mar-14 05:29:09 UTC from web-
@clayinthecarpet oh cool! It sounds nice to have some one to help that way. None of use are completely self-made, even if we try to be.

@pony I do what I do. I have my skeleton, but I learned it from larger peoples in the industry

@pony Add flexibility and you turn it into characterization.

@pony *me. And yes. Ask questions...outside of here.
Saturday, 01-Mar-14 05:30:13 UTC from web-
@clayinthecarpet I might ask you more about creating a good skeleton. I'm tired at the moment though so I'm afraid I won't be able to focus well.

@clayinthecarpet sent you a link via DM, but I'm not on FB much. I use it a bare minimum for meetups and merchandise info.

@clayinthecarpet You might actually understand better than most, social networking is just a big distraction from my writing. I'd share my craft through Facebook, but I keep friends who wouldn't appreciate foalcon, even if it does contain relatively little explicit content. (Also the reason I'm not on RDN much lately.)
Saturday, 01-Mar-14 05:02:07 UTC from web-
@pony Also, I'm in the middle of moving and job hunting.
Saturday, 01-Mar-14 05:03:16 UTC from web -
@pony Well, honestly speaking, as far as my writing goes, I don't care about what ANYBODY thinks about it. I know it's awesome, and I don't feel the need to prove myself to anybody. However, many people do. Ignore distractions and be true to how you feel, regardless of what it means. You'll lose friends, but you'll express yourself, and that's what's important.
Saturday, 01-Mar-14 05:05:38 UTC from web-
@clayinthecarpet If everybody in my life knew all of me, many would reject me just like some on RDN do. Others would be alright with it, and a few might appreciate and accept me just as they do on Fimfiction. I accept that I'll never be as close as I'd like with those from whom I hide myself, and feel it's a small price considering the witch hunts that I generally avoid. (I don't avoid them all, of course, because I've been open about it on RDN.)
I also have my wife's feelings about my reputation to consider. She knows all of my important work, but we both care how our community sees us, and that community isn't all open-minded.
Some day I'll attempt to publish something not connected to anypony else's IP, and we'll see how that changes things and whether I use my real name or not. In the mean time I'm trying to become good enough to some day write something that will change lives, and, in order to do that, I do have to be conscious of at least my target audience.Saturday, 01-Mar-14 05:23:11 UTC from web-
@pony Pony! I will never agree with everything you stand for, but I will respect it.

@clayinthecarpet I know you will. I really appreciate that. :)
