@mrmattimation woah. Anything happen due to that?
Tuesday, 27-May-14 22:49:31 UTC from web-
@techdisk The modem in my room fried, the television in both my and my sister's room is now half-broken (the screen is super discolored), and I think the DVR downstairs also broke.

@mrmattimation oh wow. Note to self: unplug literally everything in storm. Did you have anything plugged into a surge protector? If so, did it actually protect anything?
Tuesday, 27-May-14 22:53:50 UTC from web-
@techdisk The DVR downstairs was plugged into a surge protector and as far as I know that thing is dead.
Tuesday, 27-May-14 22:54:41 UTC from web-
@mrmattimation well crap. Did you check the surge protector? Maybe its just not reset.

@techdisk Thank kiwiing god I had decided to unplug my laptop right before the bolt hit, because i think it would have been toast otherwise.

@mrmattimation yeah...

@mrmattimation I wonder if you can do an insurance claim on the stuff that exploded. Lightning insurance...

@techdisk Doubt it. I think the most we can do is have Comcast send us a new cable box and a new modem for my room, because the broken TVs are very, very old. I'd been intending to purchase a new flatscreen for my room BUT I GUESS NOW I KINDA HAVE TO

@mrmattimation i would call it silver lining, but it's kinda tarnished by the smell of burning electronics. Wait. Does it actually smell like burning electronics?
Tuesday, 27-May-14 23:04:26 UTC from web-
@techdisk Nah, I don't smell any burning.
Tuesday, 27-May-14 23:04:52 UTC from web-
@mrmattimation weird. I would think that at least your busted modem would smell if it blew....god dammit. Now my brain is going through a huge troubleshooting list on how it could have blown without smelling when I shouldnt really care. Curse you Electronics troubleshooting course.

@techdisk The modem was really, really warm when I pulled it off my TV, but that's probably from years of continuous use.
Tuesday, 27-May-14 23:09:31 UTC from web-
@mrmattimation yeah, my modem gets quite warm from normal use.

@techdisk seriously. My brain: "did a fuse blow? Maybe only the power block died and the actual modem is fine if you get a new adapter. What kind of plug is it?" Me: "SHUT UP BRAIN"
Tuesday, 27-May-14 23:10:30 UTC from web-
@techdisk Maybe it's the plug, actually. I'll try putting in the plug from my sister's modem into the old one and see if that works.
Tuesday, 27-May-14 23:11:31 UTC from web-
@mrmattimation make sure you check voltage and polarity. You dont want to fry it for real.
Tuesday, 27-May-14 23:12:18 UTC from web-
@techdisk They're two of the same model that were bought at the same time, I think it's fine/
Tuesday, 27-May-14 23:12:52 UTC from web -
@techdisk It was the plug.
Tuesday, 27-May-14 23:12:57 UTC from web-
@mrmattimation huh. Sweet. Yay troubleshooting course.
Tuesday, 27-May-14 23:13:35 UTC from web -
@mrmattimation you can probably check the plug of the DVR then. That might have blown.

@techdisk (I just want to know if my room is safe. Everything I care about is plugged into one surge protector.)
Tuesday, 27-May-14 22:55:08 UTC from web-
@techdisk Perhaps, I'll check that.
