  1. Apparently fixing car engines makes me feel very tired.

    1. @nerthos They do that.

      1. @awlditzy I've been helping my father change this thing http://mla-s2-p.mlstatic.com/junta-tapa-cilin-16-8v-ascove-original-gm-5222-MLA4285191925_052013-F.jpg and then we had to readjust this http://estaticos.qdq.com/swdata/photos/249/249045373/coorrea-nueva.jpg since it moved one tooth to a side. We ended up replacing it with a new one as it was already pretty battered. Then once we assembled it and started the engine, after some 25 minutes it started leaking compression from the cylinders to the water tank. At this point we're starting to doubt if it's not a fisure in the box.

        1. @nerthos ...doubtful a fuse would cause a leak in compression. Doesn't sound like there's a leak does there?

          1. by the way if you wished to know, that's "head gasket" and "timing belt" respectively.

          2. @awlditzy Tapa de caja de cilindros. It's hard to explain it when I don't know how things are called in English.

            1. @nerthos Cylindre head.

              1. @awlditzy Good enough. Well thing is we've switched the sealing and it started leaking during the warmup spage before the last 90º turn on the screws.

                1. @nerthos Around the sealing area, the gasket?

                  1. @awlditzy Compression is going from one of the cylinders to one of the water holes painted red, in turn escaping to the tank. It only happens once it warms up. http://rainbowdash.net/attachment/775120

                    1. @nerthos OK I thought we were talking about the thermostat, because that's another problem in and of itself. Did the head gasket come with instructions to use some sort of silicone sealant around it? Are the bolts tightened down to specifications?

                      1. @awlditzy No and yes. We've done this before. Either the gasket moved while we were assembling the whole thing or something else is going on, hence the fissure theory.

                        1. @nerthos Eh, I'd definitely go through the gasket make sure it's not shifted. I can't imagine an electrical problem causing a compression leak. I'll presume you've done a test on that?

                          1. @awlditzy It's absolutely impossible to be an electrical issue as the engine is entirely mechanical.

                            1. @nerthos Jesus I was reading "fuse" in your second post.

                              1. @awlditzy Nah, there's no electrical/electronical regulation of anything there as the engine predates car computers.

                                1. @nerthos Hell unless the engine has a variable-displacement systeme it couldn't regulate compression.
