        @rarity Well yeah, but Apple started releasing all of their new OSes for free if you own the previous one, so I think it'd be neat if Microsoft started doing the same thing.

        @rarity And internally, 8.1 was released as a new OS (Windows NT 6.2), As was 8.2 (Windows NT 6.3)

          @mrmattimation @rarity, I'm sorry, mistyped, NT 6.1 was Windows 7, 6.2 was Windows 8, and 6.3 was windows 8.1. The 8.1.1 update didn't get a new dev code.
