@erkanyilmaz Is there a "right" way for me to implement site wide SSL for this instance? Can it be done without breaking federation?

I'd suggest to set up 2 test instances before you do any changes to RDN and test it there. "Just switching from http to https" will surely bring trouble. You'll have to do some webserver redirecting, perhaps?

@erkanyilmaz What about switching the WebUI to HTTPS only through Nginx redirects whilst leaving the api available on both http and https? Federation works by the same API as other apps, right?

@cinnamonswirl probably the only non-breaking way is supporting https *additionally* while keeping http.

@cinnamonswirl Federation = OStatus, Apps=Twitter-API. If you can keep all Ostatus urls at http it may work. /me = no expert
-
@cinnamonswirl …IMHO you could try this. If it doesn't work you can still revert to the current config.
-
@cinnamonswirl … changing the Twitter API urls to https may be no problem - ppl would just have to change their clients config to https/ssl
-
@cinnamonswirl … but better sub to !SN !StatusNet !GNUsocial. I was merely guessing. I don't have pratice experience with federation.
