    1. @rarity Oh sick, I love emo revival. The most recent Empire! Empire! album was just absolutely heart-wrenching.

      1. @northernnarwhal I actually listened to their EP "On Time Spent Waiting.." yesterday, want to listen to that album soon. I've also heard stuff from The World is a Beautiful Place "Whenever if I Ever", Joie De Viele "We're All Better Than This" and a couple others all just in the past 48 hours. I'm on a kick, gonna try some Modern Baseball once I'm home from work

        2. @rarity I've heard and enjoyed to various degrees all of those guys (TWIABPAINLATD hype). Modern Baseball are great, I highly recommend their "Sports" record. Also, do yourself a favour and listen to "Just Got Back From The Discomfort—We’re Alright" by The Brave Little Abacus. It's seriously emotional (read into the lyrics too). Oh, and anything by Snowing, but specifically their first EP.

          1. @northernnarwhal I need to upload this acoustic emo album I have by this one guy who as far as I can tell literally disappeared, for all I know I own the only copy and that's a shame because I doleing have loved it for years. "The Snow Shore" they were called

            1. @rarity Haven't heard of them, but that sounds pretty good.

              1. @northernnarwhal it's a little basic lyrically and production wise but I love it because it's so damn raw

                1. @rarity The best emo revival albums are always really raw sounding, at least for me.

                  1. @northernnarwhal I think that's one of the defining features of emo old and new TBH, the guy singing notes way out of his range but trying so hard

                    1. @rarity I'm going to assume you've listened to American Football. Or if you haven't, you really should.

                      1. @northernnarwhal it's in my list, to be honest I don't have much experience with true emo music. I listened to Dashboard Confessional and Death Cab in high school, and a /little/ Sunny Day Real Estate, but classic 90s stuff and modern stuff, I'm just now touching.

                        1. @rarity I had a period where I was pretty obsessed with the whole 90s emo scene and revival stuff, these days I just listen to it a bit more casually but still have my favourites here and there.

                          1. @northernnarwhal I think I might have a similar period developing myself honestly, I'm coming into it at a time where like all the lyrics are really piercing me and all that kiwi. Dashboard for kids, TWIABP for adults it seems Kappa

                            1. @rarity These days I mostly just follow my ears for whatever I find interesting. I've been through phases of listing to specific genres for a bunch of different styles of music and I feel now it's better if I just try and remain as open as possible to new stuff.

                              1. @northernnarwhal OH Queens of the Stone Age?

Friday, 12-Dec-14 03:13:46 UTC from web
                                1. @derpy128 Oh of course, Josh Homme is my spirit animal.

                                  1. @northernnarwhal Oh my god you and my step-dad need to meet.

                                    1. @derpy128 Yeah man. QOTSA, Kyuss, Desert Sessions, Them Crooked Vultures, Eagles of Death Metal, I've dug everything with the dude's name attached to it.

Friday, 12-Dec-14 03:15:31 UTC from web
                                      1. @northernnarwhal That's because Josh Homme can make complete grapes into gold. Just look at desert sessions.

                                        1. @derpy128 When I first heard "My God Is The Sun" last year it was while my friend and I were driving around in Quebec and that opening riff just blew my mind. Actually inspired me to pick the guitar again and learn it.

          2. @northernnarwhal Lately I've been listening to morning phase by beck.

Friday, 12-Dec-14 03:00:22 UTC from web
            1. @derpy128 I honestly thought that record was kind of underwhelming. Not that is was necessarily bad, just a safe move on Beck's behalf that ended up being ultimately kind of a slog that didn't contribute much to his great body of work.

Friday, 12-Dec-14 03:02:52 UTC from web
              1. @northernnarwhal That's how I felt at first too, until I started listening to it outside of the shadow of Beck, appreciating it for the sheer mixing beauty of it.

Friday, 12-Dec-14 03:04:38 UTC from web
                1. @derpy128 Oh, it's a well mixed record, I'll give him that. But the songwriting's just kind of shallow in places. It's the sort of record you'd hear in the background of a coffee shop to provide ambiance, and as a holistic piece of work it doesn't really accomplish much. That's just my opinion on it though.
