Also if s/he has to buy a years' salary worth of tools in order to do the job. Gotta love automotive.

@awlditzy Investment tends to be the hardest part of that kind of job. On the plus side, having those tools means you both always have a way to make a living, and you have a base capital.
-
@nerthos It does for sure. When I'm out of automotive I'll still have people coming to me for work, so I'll be sure to keep all my tools.
-
@awlditzy Unless you're in desperate need of money, keeping the tools is always the right idea.
-
@nerthos I'll sell my pony figures before that.
-
@awlditzy Well, yeah. Selling the source of income should only be an option in a really desperate situation, where the option is starving or dying of a disease or whatever.
-
@nerthos never sell them until they are broken, my father taught me that you can work your way out of any situation. that quick cash'll make you crash
-
@rednorth Yep. A bunch of tools and willingness to work means bread on the table at any point.
-
@nerthos i know that better than most people think
-
@rednorth I'm basically working on my own going to houses with a bag of tools whenever someone calls me because they have something broken, so yeah, quite familiar with the concept.
-
@nerthos ;)
