@bitshift So, even with all of this Minecraft still lags hard on far render distance. Turning off advanced opengl helped (even though turning it on is supposed to make it FASTER…) but not nearly as much as I'd need to be comfortable.

@nerthos It is probably the drivers. I'm not willing to let AMD's horribly coded drivers infect my system again so I am using the free drivers which are known to be slower.

@toksyuryel Haha. AMD drivers for the HD6xxx series work perfectly.

@nerthos ATI's official drivers have always been terrible on Linux, and AMD has unfortunately continued this trend. Super buggy and incredibly crashy. The last time I tried to use them they completely wrecked my system; I'm not willing to do that again. The free drivers may be slower and behind on features, but they are rock-solid.
