    Upon receiving a threat to Canterlot, the princesses needed a constant force field to protect the city. Whatever generated this force field needed to be constantly powered with an amazingly strong force: love. Cadence, with her mastery of the essence of love, offered herself to keep the generator running and the head of the royal guard offered his own identity to protect the kingdom. In order to ensure the protection of the generator, his memories were wiped and replaced with memories of his loving fiancé and his new "family". Celestia then wrote an enchanted wedding invitation to Twilight, inserting Shining Armor into her memories as a dear brother who she would protect at any cost. #
