  1. Dark souls: get 20 str and 18 dex in undead burg for black knight sword, never change weapons ever again.

    1. @nerthos Except that you can only upgrade Black Knight weapons to +5 and they have decent at best scaling. If you're going for a str/dex mix build you're way better off grabbing the Claymore by the bridge with the Hellkite Drake and maxing out that.

      1. @northernnarwhal I only ever use the sword, the other black knight weapons are subpar for me. It's good enough for NG anyway. At high stats I use the artorias greatsword, due to the 4 stat scaling.

        1. @nerthos Yeah but it splits magic damage with physical damage so you're going through 2 separate defenses, and the 4 stat scaling is inefficient unless all 4 of the scaling stats are ludicrously high, which gets even more difficult because there's a diminishing return for those around 40. You're generally better off just min/max-ing a specific stat and going from there.

          1. @northernnarwhal Only playthrough that I finished, I had my character with about 40 on str and dex and 50 in faith, can't remember how much int. Dealt a lot of damage with that.

            1. @nerthos You would deal some solid damage with stats like those, though I feel it's kinda grueling to get all the souls required for the Greatsword of Artorias to even be decently usable. Plus as I said before, split damage is kind of a hindrance. Its moveset isn't the most versatile either. I dunno, it's by far one of the coolest looking weapons in Dark Souls but I'd hardly consider it that practical or economical.

              1. @northernnarwhal Well, the points kind of fell there as I invested on stuff I wanted to get. Got the physical stats for armor and physical damage, the high faith for the big lightning spears, and then rounded up a bit the other stats. Just farmed darkroot a bit when I needed more souls.

                1. @nerthos Well my first character was also a very mixed bag of stats but I now feel like that's a very inefficient way for me to build my characters, especially when I get into the further NG+ runs where I have to keep up with more difficult computers, or even just in the case of PVP.

                  1. @northernnarwhal Well, I don't pvp in 1 since it was impossible to legally acquire here until this year due to region locks. To I torrented the hell out of it and had my single player fun.

                    1. @nerthos Ah, that makes sense. Greatsword of Artorias is usable in single player as long as you have the stats for it, but it's really readable and punishable in PvP.

                      1. @northernnarwhal In PVP I'd use something else like a balder sword, black knight, or ricard's rapier.

                        1. @nerthos Balder Sword is great for PvP, it's fast, powerful, has a really versatile moveset, and does thrusting damage that can be buffed with the Leo Ring. I usually like using either that, the Great Scythe, or the Uchigatana in PvP (my main build is Dex focused). For my Int character I pretty much always use the Moonlight Greatsword, though I'll occasionally switch to the Falchion buffed with Crystal Magic Weapon if I want a change of pace.

                          1. @northernnarwhal I rarely use the Balder Sword, but only because health pools become too big for it on PvE. On PvP that's a different story.

                            1. @nerthos Yeah I pretty much only use the Balder sword in PvP, in PvE I usually stick with the Great Scythe.
