    1. @bonesbones Oh I have lots of friends who enjoy SAO, and it's totally fine if you watch it, I just wanted to make a joke and I like being cynical and batcaveting on it cause I personally don't like it

      1. @nightmarenarwhal Oh, no, I'm saying that I'm fine if my friend watches SAO but I'm personally not interested in watching it, wasn't trying to make a crack at people who enjoy it.

        1. @bonesbones Yeah me too, I'm agreeing with you is all.

          1. @nightmarenarwhal @bonesbones what's wrong with SAO? :-P :-) Kirito-kun is cool! ;)

            1. @onetimepad Joking and personal snide aside, in all honesty it's just Not My Kind of Show. I don't like its its narrative ideas or its reinforcement of gamer culture, and I think Kirito is less of a character and more of a surrogate to empower the viewer. Its composition is solid (some of the action scenes are kind of fun) but ideologically I really starkly disagree with SAO and what it represents.

              1. @nightmarenarwhal @onetimepad Personally, I don't watch much anime (and honestly I didn't watch much SAO), and I feel like SAO never really gave me anything to go off of other than a generic anime vibe and because of that I don't have much to say about it.

                2. @bonesbones I understand why SAO is popular and why people like it, and it certainly has its place amidst the modern ethos of anime (hell, it's profitable series like SAO that keep the industry alive) but as someone who really likes the anime medium I'm bound to have my own weighted critical priorities of evaluation and a show like SAO really doesn't align with them.

                      3. @onetimepad Yeah, many of my best friends love SAO, so I don't mind talking about it (it's why I watched through all of it too).

              2. @nightmarenarwhal wow, that was deep. I think on a certain level I can agree. Never gave it that much thought... wow. Thank you.

                1. @onetimepad Which is fine too! We all approach our media in our own way, so sheer visceral engagement with SAO is just as valid as any other manner of evaluation. If you enjoy SAO then that's all that matters. I'd be happy if I found it meaningful too, but I have different ideas I give value to when watching so SAO turned out to be a show that wasn't for me.
