@dillybob @silhouette What I mean by "breaking the network" is when admins stop their servers from federating with servers where people they don't like are welcome. Then people on one server can't see the people on the other one and vice versa which means everyone goes back to Twitter and facebook because at least those work.
Simple examples would be me blocking the Rainbow Dash server from sending messages to GNU/Smug because I dislike my little pony or the quitter.* group blocking a server where conservatives are welcome.-

@betafive I don't think they are, I just group them together because the admins are all in the same ideological camp from what I've seen.
