@nepbanana @nerthos @fl0wn @mrmattimation but what is your opinion on the us marines? are they traitors who fight for israel, or are they soldiers who died to protect their country?
-
@delores they're soldiers who lay their life on the line for what they think is best for our country only to be sold out by the pencil dick powers that be @mrmattimation @nerthos @neppapaya
-
@fl0wn Basically why I'd never pledge allegiance to a country.

@nerthos I stand by my community & country but not the propagandist bullapple koolaid that most people here stay so drunk on :s
-
@fl0wn I just put my personal beliefs and principles above community and country. So I cannot in good conscience pledge myself to a country knowing the interests of it don't go along with my ethics, and doing so would be prostituting my honor. It's either follow the liege and go against my morality, or stay true to myself and break an oath. The only winning move is not to play.

@nerthos I agree with you here. I see my duty not to the power of the state and nation as an international power so much as to my neighbours, community and such extended to the national level. I'm bound to my people, not the puppet masters that try to control us =)
-
@nerthos but yeah, I came very close to enlisting at least 3 times before 9/11. Thankfully after much deliberation I reconsidered. Considering I was looking at infantry, most likely Army Rangers, I'm thankful (in hindsight) that I stayed a civilian.

@nerthos @fl0wn @fl0wn i never understood why everyone was so enthusiastic to do that. yeah, i'm proud of my country and our long list of accomplishments, but we aren't always right, and we shouldn't blindly say we will always serve our country no matter what.
then again, maybe a little bit of nationalism is necessary to keep a country together. what do i know?-
@c @flown Pretty much. Everyone should do their best in a defensive war, but when there isn't one, enlisting to go fight somewhere else when there's no threat or anything, for the interests of a government, is more wrong than right.

@delores I dunno why my opinion really matters, but here it is anyway. I think I can't say much about our troops other than I respect a great many of them because of how much they put on the line to serve their country and protect the people they love. Sure, you get a lot of assholes and even sociopaths who do it for the thrill of killing or to get a GED or stay out of prison or something along those lines, but I like to think we have a lot of very good people willing to die for the people they care about out there. I don't agree with many things our country sends our military out to do, but that's a separate issue entirely. A very large portion of my family is or was in the military, some marines, some air force, but all of them are people I respect immensely for the sacrifices they've made.

@delores As for Israel, I'm not educated enough on the matter to say anything about it.

@delores @nepkiwi @nerthos @fl0wn @mrmattimation The military used to be the proud people who volunteered to defend their nation. these days they have become nothing more than a political sacrificial lamb. if congress and the president want to start a politically motivated war they need to get geared up and fight it themselves. im sure the war powers act wouldnt be used if the president had his rear end being shot at

@sumi perhaps I'm biased because most of my friends who've spent time downrange are operators and infantry but bet none of those pencil dick false patriots on Capitol Hill would but any of their own in similar situations. I mean the current GOP hero is who, McCain, with nothing more to his name than sitting quietly in a POW camp. IMO they need to put their money where their collective mouths are and run up or shut up or respectively back the kiwi off. @mrmattimation @nerthos @nepbanana @delores
-
@sumi Oh, sure, I completely agree. I'm fond of the tribal method of making both leaders fight it out when they just want something the other has or influence or whatever. 0 bloodshed outside the interested parties.
