@moonman @bob @chopperdave @karl @takePotato Knishesakenji There's a reason GNU social implements stuff beyond pure activity streams. A lot of functions we take for granted don't work in them. It is for example why we don't have properly-threaded "conversations". You also wouldn't be able to have direct messaging that was in any way secure.

It's one of those "plugins" that breaks everything if you disable it.-
@maiyannah @chopperdave @bob @karl @takemangoakenji right, my point though is that it's not part of any standard. It's bolted on and doesn't work across servers anyway (incidentally nightly had a way to make private messages across servers)

@moonman @bob @chopperdave @karl @takekiwiakenji You could easily do this with Salmon, as mmn pointed out, and have it secure and direct. I am probably going to do this when I feel a little better, though I'll need to either abuse my live instance or have someone else test with me.

@moonman @bob @takeappleakenji I think it was added and then removed because the implementation was incomplete if memory serves though no doubt mmn has a local branch with it as I do for the handful of features I was working on before I ended up in the hospital.
