  1. What will always baffle me is how they manage to go through with this massive undertakings of sheer idiocy. It's one thing for an individual to do something suicidal thinking it's a good idea, but it's a monument to the failures of our species to have a dedicated scientific team and all the resources to build something super advanced and expensive for the sake of doing something idiotic, with no one stepping up and saying "hey this can kill us"

    1. @nerthos Loading an atomic bomb onto a god damn airplane in 1945 was also pretty damn stupid, simply because back then planes exploding during takeoff was a very real possibility. Imagine if the Enola Gay failed during its takeoff while it had the Little Boy onboard.

      1. @mrmattimation Well yeah but that would have only blown up a military base and some towns around the place, so while stupid, it's not on the same scale, as it'd be irrelevant for the world at large to lose a base and a few towns somewhere in usa. Plus atomic bombs don't detonate because something explodes next to them like conventional explosives, at most I think it would have caused a radiation leak.

        1. @nerthos I think in the 1960s a cargo plane was carrying live nuclear warheads and nobody on the crew new about it. THAT most certainly would have caused an international incident if it had gone wrong.

          2. @mrmattimation Still not to the degree of world extinction event, but pretty stupid as well.
