  1. Texturing 3D models is awfully tedious. I created a simple key card model and I'm already hating it.

    1. @adiwan it's the most fun part when you get into it properly, but still most time consuming, atleast with blender

      1. @shpuld @adiwan I never figured out how to do that.

        1. @nerthos @adiwan I learned it the extremely hard way in (Fluffle Puffty old) MS3D which didn't support proper UV unwrapping, only projecting the mesh on UVs, switching to blender made the whole thing very smooth and easy in comparison

          1. @shpuld @nerthos @adiwan Switching from FrankerZty shareware to one of those free software applications that came out of a company specializing in the area is usually a good idea.

            1. @takemangoakenji @nerthos @adiwan yeah, I learned MS3D originally in 2007 or so as my first ever 3d software, it was simple enough to get started with even for a dumb teenager. It just took me a long time to actually switch after I had got good with MS3D, but I was happy to realize that the most important skills always carry over.

          2. @shpuld I messed around with blender for a while, and had fun making models (I'm decent at it, guess it's like sculpting that I used to do with clay) but I just couldn't find the texturing interface at all.

        2. @nerthos Thanks to the automatic mesh unwrapping it's not very hard but the automated results (even with manually marked seams) is still shoddy. The placement of the verticies isn't ideal in most cases but for the beginning it isn't that bad. For the best results there is still a lot of manual placement of the verticies in the UV map.

          1. @adiwan As I told @shpuld I just was unable to figure out how to start doing it. I didn't know where the texture things were in the software.

            1. @nerthos Was it Blender? Blender is a nightmare for accessibility. I had to read a few how-tos to get it working.

              1. @adiwan Yeah, it was blender. I don't even remember what I was trying to do with it at the time.
