  1. @fl0wn @dogjaw @nerthos I actually don't have as much trouble with the callout that mangoed up my leg because as banana and traumatic as it was it was pretty much an objectively good thing I was doing there.  The ones where you're either:

A: helpless to actually do anything to help, or

B: dealing with a very grey situation,

are the ones people tend to have problems with IME.

    1. @fl0wn @dogjaw @nerthos Though what dogjaw describes probably falls pretty well under A, Id suppose.

    2. @maiyannah @fl0wn @dogjaw Nothing quite as bad as being powerless to help when there's nothing you want more than to solve whatever's happening.

      1. @nerthos @fl0wn @dogjaw That's why that young girl sticks with me.  She was already gone.  And there's all the numerous little questions that plague you if you linger on it.  What if you got there faster, took a different route, or knew first aid better, or *something*.

The best way to deal with it ultimately is kind of not to.

        1. @maiyannah Fully in agreement there. I've done better over the years not asking myself those questions, or hating myself for stopping with the questions.

          1. @awl Those questions will eat you ALIVE if you let them.

        2. @maiyannah @fl0wn @dogjaw That's me with hurt cats TBH. For some reason cats get a whole lot more empathy and sympathy from me than humans or anything else.
