@greydragon412: Oh yeah, to prevent the Skype client from snooping around on your system and sending your data to Microsoft servers, I would recommend you to, instead of using Skype itself, using a webclient for it like http://www.imo.im/

@omni I'm using windows and I have a google account. all data on this mashine are pretty much public.

@hakupony >Implying that, because your system data already belongs to someone else, that having more software which spies on you is "just fine then". "Oh, my neighbours are looking through a hole in the wall? May as well keep my doors and windows open at all times."

@omni I think that is the wrong image. If you don't have a wall, then you need not close your door but keep your valuables in another house.

@hakupony So, you don't store personal data on that system?

@omni no personal data would be too much - but if I want to hide something, then it is not on this system :3

@silverfeather If you have nothing to hide, why don't you give me access to your system? I'd happily snoop around it until you save something personal on it (oh, guess what, most clients save your chatlogs on your system. It's not really "personal info", but do you want anyone to see your chatlogs? I can be sure that, over the years, you have said at least one thing which could be at least somewhat embarrassing if it would be public.)

@silverfeather The thing is, every tiny bit of information can be presented in such a way it can be embarassing. I'm not saying I am living in complete safety, but I try to at least somewhat prevent big companies from snooping through my personal files. I know how easy it is to not care, though, I used to be like that for very long :P

@silverfeather I'm sorry if I appear forceful, I'm not trying to force you into any special way of dealing with everything, I am merely trying to point out the risk of the Internet. Imo, however, will likely save your chat logs on their server so that's not completely save either, I would personally only recommend it for Skype (though it depends if you think the risk of having your chatlogs read is worse for your privacy than the possibility of having personal files transferred which can be associated with the person behind the PC). Ugh, I'm like... THIS close to creating my own Jabber-based network. Privacy issues, privacy issues everywhere.

@omni I am glad that there are people like you who care. it's really nice to have the possibility of true privacy.

@silverfeather its kinda hard to tell whos a guy and whos a girl
Saturday, 28-Jul-12 14:28:02 UTC from web -
@silverfeather That's the problem: it's impossible to really tell. Skype creates completely encrypted traffic, which nobody has been able to decrypt yet, so nobody really knows how to find out what exactly it is sending around.
