Honestly, I still feel like I'd be happier if I were in a place where people are more IRL social and less smartphone/Internet social, so I could finally find enough IRL friendship to finally disconnect from the Internet.
-
An off-grid social life seems so novel today, even though that's how it's been for most of humanity's existence.
-
It's kind of funny how I spent all this time growing up as computers and the Internet grew into what they are today, yet I look back at the simplicity of pre-Internet time (and my childhood) and yearn for the simplicity.
Kind of reminds me how how I grew up with integrated bicycle shifters, then slowly 'regressed' to indexed bar-end shifters, then friction bar-end shifters, which is where I am now. I went from disc brakes to rim brakes, and never gained any interest in hydraulic brakes nor electronic shifters.-
I keep hearing about how the legal, employment, and financial systems are geared against the individual here, and am afraid of doing anything to "rock the boat." I feel trapped in this society.
-
Part of why I don't actively look into getting romantically involved with anyone is because I've heard all the horror stories with people doxxing their exes or worse online. I'm afraid of marriage because of how men often get shafted in divorce courts.
-
This society is like being inside a hellish cage.
-
I feel like my current life is eroding away my soul, but I'm too scared to do anything about it.
-
@takePotato Knishesakenji I am familiar with this.

@takepapayaakenji curious. You ever have a bicycle with downtube shifters? Also I'm starting to regress in tech preferences. Pre-internet times is more like a fantasy than a remembrance though.

@awl I haven't tried downtube shifters yet, but I think about it.
-
@takemangoakenji i like them but then again the only extensive experience I have is with a friction stem shifter and a dual indexed thumb shifter.

Looks like I'm not alone in preferring getting feedback from my drivetrain.
> But electronic drivetrains have always left me a little cold. When I push a button on an electronic shifter, it does exactly what I tell it to do, but at the same time, it also doesn’t tell me anything in return.
> But when it comes to bicycle transmissions, it’s just that I prefer the feel of physically doing something with my hands. When I push on a standard Shimano Dura-Ace lever, I can feel the derailleur moving at the other end. When I release the ratchet on a SRAM DoubleTap lever, I’m rewarded with a loud “click.” When I slam the thumb lever on a Campagnolo Ergopower lever, I know exactly how many gears I’ve selected by how far my finger has moved.
