@thelastgherkin I always figured the Cosmic Empress (or whatever) was off controlling even more important things than just the sun (like entire galaxies) and left the princesses in charge of a (cosmically) minor planet for a (cosmically) short period of time. Kind of existentialist. But I like the senile queen idea too!

@erfunden it's because luna and celestia are not actually sisters! ... But a homosexual couple ruling as queen and queen would be frowned upon, so they agreed early on to convince the world they were sisters! And the queen is locked in a tower, cutting and snorting lines of zap-apple skin shavings
