  1. @clacke @sargoth @xj9 btw when i say regulated i mean things like, laws making it so states couldnt coerce other states into returning fugitive slaves, banning importation of slaves (this was done a long time ago but still), etc, things done around the periphery because of the lack of ability to get it abolished outright.

    the south (possibly correctly) considered slavery to be sacrosanct because literally from the foundation of the united states, slavery was allowed as a condition that made the union possible. there was only a united states to begin with because of compromise on slavery.
