I do, personally, believe that the wordfilter shouldn't be focusing so hard on trying to catch edge cases, acting more as a reminder of "words to not say" and letting mods do the determining what's considered an edge case.

@redenchilada So basically, my idea of giving users warning before posting their notices that it may contain a bad word.

@minti That option just seems even more obnoxious to me.

@redenchilada Not really, I kind of like that idea more.

@minti "Hey, our filter thinks you might be breaking this rule, but, y'know, do what you want." It has the issue of people testing what it catches without actually attempting to stop those who want to get past it.

@redenchilada It'll make people think twice about posting though, and they'll have no valid reason (they will anyway xD) to complain if a mod deletes the notice if they post it anyway.

@redenchilada It would still remove the problem of "BUT I DIDN'T KNOW IT WAS A SWEAR WAAAH" - if someone's intending to break the rules, they're gonna find a way to do it regardless, and that's when human intervention (i.e., a mod with a delete/banhammer) should kick in.

@redenchilada But surely it then gets back to mods determining what does/doesn't go, and the lack of consensus problem returns?

@bitshift The filter list would be the base list of words to remove. The mods would simply be taking care of cases that slip past the filter, or that are obviously meant to evade the filter.
