  1. I think Toks' is the better solution. Have the wordfilter applied to those who can not behave by themselves. Why have a cop watching over someone who never commited crime?

    1. @nerthos I'm just afraid doing that will lead the censored to believe they're being unfairly targeted. In my perfect world, I'd love the filter to be optional, but knowing all of the inconsistencies with the API, federation, and everything else, that'd be a huge issue.

        3. @stepykins When you get on using a phone app, a desktop app, or some Minecraft plugin or something (someone made one of those, believe it or not), said app uses the API to communicate with the site. Where it hits issues with having an optional wordfilter is that there's no rule requiring those using the API to verify which user it is for, say, viewing the public timeline. So either you force it off, which defeats the purpose for some, or you force it on, which some might take issue with.

      3. @redenchilada Man, you know that anybody who /needs/ to be constantly moderated is going to complain regardless of situation. Some of us, though, are able to stop after being warned by the staff, and as such we get angry when affected by such a measure. I think this whole thing escalated far more than it should. We should stop for a while, and breach the issue again once everyone has calmed down.
