    2. @minti Just based on the name, I'm guessing MDM is MATE's replacement for GDM (that provides the login screen, at least on GNOME systems). So... you should be safe to remove mdm, as long as you don't reboot before installing GNOME fully. I think. :S

      1. @bitshift I was thinking that too. And yeah, mdm pretends to be gdm apparently. I find it funny that the package manager didn't pick up on this conflict and remove mdm though.

      2. @bitshift Yeah I'm a retard, why didn't I think of removing mdm first. I tried to remove it AFTER I broke apt by installing only part of gnome3, but not before ... #
