  1. @nerthos How does one even make a remote follow profile in the first place? And why not just post on here directly?

    1. @firestormdangerdash As I explained before, RDN can't federate with several nodes that SPC can. So by using SPC as main I can talk to both RDN people and SLC/FZP and some masto people that I couldn't talk to from over there. I migrated fully when federation with SLC and FZP broke completely over there.
As for a "remote follow profile" the service was meant to be used like this from the beginning, RDN was just self contained for most of its history unlike the rest of the sites using the software.

      3. @nerthos How do you "make" a remote follow profile? Just curious.

        1. @firestormdangerdash I don't really understand the question. You just follow someone from another node like I explained earlier and you succefully did with me. GNUsocial nodes even have a popup preview of users when you hover over their names with a follow button to automate the process.

          1. @nerthos Oh it's just some integrated system with the software RDN and other sites use? I just assumed you had to make some sort of profile in that state to link to another profile. Cause if I click on your name (not remote follow) it shows an RDN profile that has no posts even before you moved off RDN.

            1. @firestormdangerdash Oh, yeah, you're probably looking at the local copy of the remote profile. The server automatically does it as a way to handle remote posts in an easier way by storing a copy of each post locally instead of pulling them from each server whenever an user wants to see them. That way, the new post is requested from its original server only once and can be viewed indefinitely locally, greatly reducing network load which is the most expensive part of hosting.

              1. @nerthos To continue this bullFluffle Puff learning squabble, if I made a cherrypost profile, how would I link or have my posts show up on RDN?

                1. @firestormdangerdash They'd show up to anyone that subscribed to you, as well as replies showing on conversation trees.

                  1. @nerthos Someone should event a system where your post is posted on multiple sites, think of all the lost RDN'ers that dont show up on RDN cause no one knew to follow them!

                    1. @firestormdangerdash You could make repeat bots on other sites I guess. I think some already did mirror accounts to get around cases where a site didn't federate with another.

              2. @nerthos Or they don't and only people who remote follow can have them dragged over?
