@nerthos He still on the fedi-tubes somewhere?

@nerthos I keep threatening to start my own, blackjack.andhookers.net methinks....

@scribus I know a few guys that can help you set up a pleroma server if you're interested, might get the lead dev to answer doubts when (if) he returns from the DPRK.
-
@nerthos I can probably swing it, I had ye olde Status Net working on a VM on my desktop a couplefew years ago. Lemme just say "How hard could it be?" for full jinx potential
-
@scribus That's fair. I like StatusNet/GNUsocial most but the wider fediverse has mostly abandoned ostatus at this point, and they tend to decay over time and get really hard to mantain. The two "modern" options are Mastodon and Pleroma, of which I'd recommend the latter since 1.0 released last month, all the devs are reachable, it's less resource intensive and it follows FOSS development philosophy, while Mastodon goes the benevolent dictator for life way, and any additions need to get through the lead dev. Plus while this is a taste thing rather than an objective thing, pleroma is closer to the SN/GS UI while mastodon goes with a timeline divided in several columns which only is useful in very wide screens.
-
@nerthos I've had eyes on either Pleroma or, actually, Diaspora. But I think I prefer the "Twitter clone" angle over the "Facebook clone" one.

@scribus I didn't bring up Diaspora because I assumed you'd like something similar to this more than something similar to faceplace.
Hmm, I wonder how much justinbfan.club would cost -
@scribus As for resource usage https://the.hedgehoghunter.club/notice/9kaqUcZK7WplT4Avtw
-
@nerthos That, and I know people on this side of the fediverse. No idea who uses Diaspora.
-
@nerthos (python is bdfl) Mastodon's column layout is pretty bizarre though.
-
@thismightbeauser Yeah, I'm not sure what they were going for exactly. It can work in an ultrawide screen, but you'd likely have to mess with it with stylish or some other browser extension to make it really good. I think pleroma does it right with a wide main timeline centered on the screen, and a smaller notifications timeline on the side.
