    1. @sandypony Yeah it's really irritating. It was introduced recently though, you missed the RDN that wasn't rated PG.

Monday, 08-Oct-12 01:59:52 UTC from MuSTArDroid
      1. @greenenchilada *missed the RDN where the admins couldn't enforce PG

Monday, 08-Oct-12 02:03:01 UTC from web
        1. @eaglehooves I do miss it. I don't really think anyone really abused the fact we didn't have a word filter, and most stuff that was really bad got deleted.

Monday, 08-Oct-12 02:05:10 UTC from MuSTArDroid
          1. @greenenchilada So if people didn't abuse it, then where's the problem in them now not being able to?

Monday, 08-Oct-12 02:11:52 UTC from web
            1. @bitshift Because it was okay and, surprisingly enough, actually funny once in a while. We actually had a guy leave because of it.

Monday, 08-Oct-12 02:15:58 UTC from MuSTArDroid
              1. @greenenchilada Before, posts with the words would be deleted. Having the offending word filtered is a much better solution for everyone involved. I thought we put this discussion to rest ages ago.

Monday, 08-Oct-12 02:17:56 UTC from web
                1. @redenchilada Just because it was "settled" does not mean everyone automatically becomes okay with it.

Monday, 08-Oct-12 02:20:40 UTC from MuSTArDroid
                  1. @greenenchilada But it was already against the rules to use that language on here. Concern about false positives is justified, yes, but trying to say that it's bad because breaking said rule "could be funny once in a while" is an absurd thing to say.

Monday, 08-Oct-12 02:23:22 UTC from web
                    1. @redenchilada But it was funny. And since the word filter is in place, does that give me an excuse to use any ****ing explicits I ****ing please?

Monday, 08-Oct-12 02:25:41 UTC from MuSTArDroid
                      1. @greenenchilada How about this. If you break the rule and swear: You're banned.

Monday, 08-Oct-12 02:29:32 UTC from web
                        1. @minti That is someone who sounds tired of someone and isn't using proper judgment.

Monday, 08-Oct-12 02:31:00 UTC from MuSTArDroid
                          1. @greenenchilada That's exactly what it is. The rule hasn't changed: Swearing is against the rules and you will be diciplined if you break them.

Monday, 08-Oct-12 02:31:49 UTC from web
                            1. @minti Disciplined, not banned. Silencing would be a good way to react, not outright ban. After repetitive abuse then I would consider it.

Monday, 08-Oct-12 02:34:45 UTC from MuSTArDroid
                              1. @greenenchilada In case you didn't know, silencing and banning are exactly the same. :p

Monday, 08-Oct-12 02:35:18 UTC from web
                                1. @minti Silencing is for an amount of time. Ban us kind of forever.

Monday, 08-Oct-12 02:37:13 UTC from MuSTArDroid

Monday, 08-Oct-12 02:37:31 UTC from MuSTArDroid
                                  2. @greenenchilada A silence is a temp-ban, a permaban is a permanent one. Depending on who's using the word, "ban" on its own could mean either.

Monday, 08-Oct-12 02:38:23 UTC from web
                                    1. @bitshift I know. I just said that.

Monday, 08-Oct-12 02:39:57 UTC from MuSTArDroid
                                      1. @greenenchilada I know, I was just confirming that I've noticed it being used that way too.

Monday, 08-Oct-12 02:40:55 UTC from web
                                        1. @bitshift Okay.

                                  3. @greenenchilada Well in StatusNet's interface, Silencing "bans" you from posting. xD Banning and Silencing has always been the same for me, regardless of length. Permabanning on the other hand...

Monday, 08-Oct-12 02:38:31 UTC from web
                                    1. @minti Why are people repeating what I said in another post

Monday, 08-Oct-12 02:40:57 UTC from MuSTArDroid
                                      1. @greenenchilada I said something different though. xD

Monday, 08-Oct-12 02:41:57 UTC from web
                                        1. @minti You rephrased it kind of.

Monday, 08-Oct-12 02:43:22 UTC from MuSTArDroid
                                          1. @greenenchilada das so stupid

Monday, 08-Oct-12 02:44:19 UTC from web
                                          2. @greenenchilada Nup. You were saying silence is a ban with length, and a ban is a permenant one. I was saying silence and ban are exactly the same (one with a length), and a permaban is one that lasts forever. :p

Monday, 08-Oct-12 02:44:44 UTC from web

                                              1. @greenenchilada sigh xD

Monday, 08-Oct-12 02:47:37 UTC from web
                                              2. @greenenchilada Awww, there goes the hat. I was kinda hoping he'd still have it later. :(

Monday, 08-Oct-12 02:48:04 UTC from web
                              2. @greenenchilada Silencing is still a kind of ban, just not the kind that's permanent. (And these terms are kind of ambiguous. :S)

Monday, 08-Oct-12 02:36:16 UTC from web
                                1. @bitshift xD We really should just be using one term. Or using it as a blanket term or something.

Monday, 08-Oct-12 02:37:51 UTC from web
                          2. @greenenchilada doesnt make it any less valid.

Monday, 08-Oct-12 02:31:50 UTC from web
                      2. @greenenchilada As long as you have no problem with them coming out as four asterisks, yes. (Though if you were using them to swear at someone, I suspect that could technically fall under the harassment rule if the tone of the post was clearly hostile even with the swears blocked - but then the rule you were breaking would still be "don't harass people", not "don't swear".)

Monday, 08-Oct-12 02:29:35 UTC from web
                        1. @bitshift So I can ****ing do this? Well, I officially understand jack **** about RDN.

Monday, 08-Oct-12 02:32:26 UTC from MuSTArDroid
                          1. @greenenchilada Apparently not. I can't entirely see what the point of the filter is if such posts still technically break the rules, but @minti's the mod here, not me, so his word goes.

                        2. @bitshift Actually, as far as I can tell it was added so we don't have to delete the accidental slip up that happens in normal conversation. If people are doing it on purpose (such as swearing just cause they feel they can ) they're in the wrong.

                          1. @bitshift Then I'm stumped. Buh. I got the other program working at one point, so I dunno what I'm doing wrong here.

                              2. @minti I've forked the RDN repo and I'm trying to commit an update to rdnshiny.

                                1. @redenchilada Is the directory in the .gitignore? I remember it being there. xD

Monday, 08-Oct-12 02:42:15 UTC from web
                                  1. @minti Ooh, I didn't even think of that. I have no idea how Github For Windows handles that, but that could well be it. (I should make a note of that for future reference if it does turn out to be the problem.)

Monday, 08-Oct-12 02:43:58 UTC from web
                                  2. @minti Nope. I don't think so, anyway.

Monday, 08-Oct-12 02:44:22 UTC from web
                              3. @minti Specifically, bringing it up-to-date, since the current repo's version is so out-of-date it's using shiny's default avatar instead of RDN's.

      2. @greenenchilada What's irritating about it? It only blocks words that would've got your posts deleted before. (Yes, there were false positives, but most were caught very quickly, and since @widget merged my changes, there shouldn't even be any obscure ones left.)
