    3. @adorable The horror.

    4. @adorable Let's just say I can do basic admin stuff, but even I find LFS hard to compile because I had to hunt down every damn dependency on the internet for the ingredient, plus whatever dependency it needed to run that dependency!

      1. @cabal Gentoo is nothing like LFS. They are not anywhere near the same category.

      2. @cabal Horsefeathers. The dependencies are linked, with the specific versions, and even archive links where packages were deprecated and removed from their original source, in the book itself. So unless you intentionally skipped over several sections (in which case, why?), you shouldn't have had to search for dependencies at all.

      3. @cabal That's not to say LfS *isn't* tedious, because hooo boy it is. But having to crawl about the internet for dependencies is not a part of that, because you don't.

        1. @bitshift In highschool, I was downloading the files needed from each developer website and discovered that they needed dependencies to function. Then for each dependency I sought, there was a dependency needed for that dependency, eventually, I gave up.

          1. @cabal Huh. I've been following the project on and off for quite a while now, and I don't recall the dependencies ever not being catalogued in full, but depending on how old you are (I won't ask if you don't want to say~) that probably doesn't date back as far as you're talking about. That... euch, that would've been unpleasant, but fortunately it certainly isn't a problem with current (B)LfS revisions. :)

            1. @bitshift I am 23, I attempted to build it when I was 16-17.

              1. @cabal Huh. That'd be... pretty much the same time I started following it. Maybe after, if anything (started following in '06, and given we're about a year apart, that'd mean you were either 16 or 17 then, slap-bang in the middle of that time period). Now I'm just confused.

    6. @widget Nice. I've attempted them, but... eh. Didn't have the time back when my primary computer was slow enough for time to be an issue, don't have the inclination now my primary computer isn't.
