Why dont they keep parachutes on airliners as a just in case?
Saturday, 29-Dec-12 19:12:54 UTC from web-
@renovatedkitchen Because crashing into the ocean is more likely than needing to jump out of a plane, it would cost thousands and have hardly any storage space for them, and despite what Mitt Romney thinks opening the doors of a plane is not considered a good idea?
-
@renovatedkitchen Would you trust a company that can't even get a meal right or keep track of your luggage to properly pack your parachute for you?
-
@thelastgherkin But what the plane gives off a beacon when it is going down. If at least some people could survive, that would let the coast guard know where to find them. Or even individual beacons. They aren't that expensive these days. Couldnt they fit them under the seat or someplace? Opening the doors at altitude isnt a good idea, but by the time someone does open the door and the plane is going downwards, I'm sure it would be low enough. Might be expensive, but it would save some lives
-
@thelastgherkin He wanted to open the /windows/. The doors just don't open because of the pressure differential (By design).
-
@colfax That is true, but even so, at least theres a 50/50 chance of things working out right, rather than certain death
-
@renovatedkitchen You'd be better off grabbing up seat cushions and stuffing them, and yourself, into one of that bathrooms.
-
@ceruleanspark Romney wanted to /open the windows on his plane/ ?
-
@renovatedkitchen Yes. He said this on television even.
-
@colfax Well, some airlines are at least a bit more competent than most
-
@ceruleanspark now THAT is what I call an American president
-
@renovatedkitchen The under the seat is already where the lifejackets are. And it's not going to save lives over an ocean crash any more than strand random hotshots who like diving out of windows in the middle of the sea.
-
@ceruleanspark Did someone remind him they cant go through the McDonalds drive through in the plane?
-
@thelastgherkin we should get teleporters already
-
@renovatedkitchen To scramble atoms in all directions?
-
@thelastgherkin More importantly, trained professionals die when they get tangled up in their chute chords and drown. Random civilians stand basically zero chance.
-
@colfax LOLOLOLOLOLOLOOOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL!!!! So people can breathe more easily in the case of a fire.
-
@colfax so that was true...
-
@thelastgherkin I want to be stored on a USB stick
-
@mushi Oh yeah... horribly horribly true.
-
@renovatedkitchen You sound like the kind of person who could fit in 4gb.
-
@ceruleanspark Then again, assuming the plane is going down because of a storm, the wind would probably destroy the parachuter
-
@thelastgherkin I actually prefer floppy's
-
@colfax maybe he also wants to replace the astonauts clothes with a a bowl for them to put the head in
-
@renovatedkitchen Hey man, Optimus Prime's entire brain can be AND WAS stored on a floppy disk.
-
@thelastgherkin They did that to Cliff in Doom Patrol too, copied him to a CD and installed him in a new body.
-
@mushi No, he probably believes that sending people into space somehow involves witchcraft.
-
@thelastgherkin You know what this means. I am Optimus Prime, and a useless truck
-
@colfax Did he commit suicide first because he had lost at a video game?
-
@thelastgherkin No, but according to his son he didn't want to be president anyway.
-
@thelastgherkin #NSFW because gross
-
@renovatedkitchen i wonder if i could use thios toimprove the speed of this torrent
-
@mushi You gotta do it in a circle with your friends, but yes
-
@renovatedkitchen ew, friends
-
@mushi lol. But yes, ew
