So I'm afraid my CPU is a little bit injured, and very sensitive to heat. :C
Monday, 31-Dec-12 05:31:01 UTC from web-
@scribus How bad is it?
Monday, 31-Dec-12 05:31:37 UTC from web-
@eaglehooves Well, the last spat of compy issues I had seemed to end when I applied new thermal paste to the CPU. And just now, it crapped out again while I was running my new space heater in my room at full heat (just to see exactly how hot it got). So, like, I'm a bit afraid of what summer might bring.
Monday, 31-Dec-12 05:35:07 UTC from web-
@scribus i hope your pc with stands the summer heat
Monday, 31-Dec-12 05:36:16 UTC from web -
@scribus Yea... That's going to be ugly. Those things can produce some serious heat. My dorm was a scorcher for a few months thanks to one really bad desktop.
Monday, 31-Dec-12 05:39:54 UTC from web-
@eaglehooves It's not like it heats my room up much. Just seems to crap out after the CPU gets hot. Not sure if I can fit liquid cooling into my case.
Monday, 31-Dec-12 06:01:05 UTC from web-
@scribus you could try liquid cooling...if it fits, i hope it helps
Monday, 31-Dec-12 06:02:12 UTC from web-
@robalien Yeah, but then I'm also left wondering if I've damaged the CPU itself, too. I mean, I reckon it's smooth when it works, but the very fact that it dies out is worrisome. (Also, if it's not really the CPU? Damn, that'll suck.... I mean, even when it's the computer's very brain itself that's wrong, at least I know the problem and how to fix it!)
Monday, 31-Dec-12 06:05:29 UTC from web-
@scribus thats good that you know whats wrong with it
Monday, 31-Dec-12 06:06:21 UTC from web -
@scribus do you know what processor model it is and how hot it ACTUALLY gets?
Monday, 31-Dec-12 06:06:35 UTC from web-
@unhipdruid I wrote music when I was in a band, but it was bland and one-sided writing because it was metal. Metal sounds cool but is boring as nuts to write.
Monday, 31-Dec-12 06:07:39 UTC from web-
@crusader8 agreed
Monday, 31-Dec-12 06:08:33 UTC from web -
@crusader8 I wish I could still access the work-in-progress version of "Coming out of the Iron Maiden." It was going to be 3 State Killing Spree!!s debut "purple metal" song. All I can remember is "Oh, why can't Neil Patrick Harris be metal? / I'm his number one fan."
Monday, 31-Dec-12 06:09:08 UTC from web-
@scribus eh?
Monday, 31-Dec-12 06:12:27 UTC from web-
@crusader8 You were talking about writing metal music.
Monday, 31-Dec-12 06:12:57 UTC from web-
@scribus but I didn't understand anything you said ;-;
Monday, 31-Dec-12 06:15:39 UTC from web-
@crusader8 3 State Killing Spree!! was the band, "Coming out of the Iron Maiden" was the song, and "purple metal" was supposed to be a "black metal, but gay" genre of metal. And then, there's the line about NPH.
Monday, 31-Dec-12 06:16:42 UTC from web-
@scribus purple metal does exist. *insert insulting ja at metal I don't like here*
Monday, 31-Dec-12 06:20:18 UTC from web-
@crusader8 Ooh, burn, I'm sure. :p
Monday, 31-Dec-12 06:21:28 UTC from web-
@scribus *segway to danger zone reference*
Monday, 31-Dec-12 06:22:36 UTC from web-
@crusader8 Highway?
Monday, 31-Dec-12 06:22:53 UTC from web-
@anarchycarcino no, segway as in verb, as in to connect one context to a more suitable context to introduce said danger zone reference.
Monday, 31-Dec-12 06:24:05 UTC from web-
@crusader8 Highway. To the danger zone.
Monday, 31-Dec-12 06:24:55 UTC from web-
@anarchycarcino I think you misunderstood what I was saying.
Monday, 31-Dec-12 06:25:42 UTC from web-

@unhipdruid It's a quad-core AMD Phemon II Black, but I don't know how hot it gets. I do know that the last time I had issues a new application of thermal paste solved them, and the latest crash occurred when I was intentionally heating my room as hot as I could heat it.

@unhipdruid Noted. Now to find out at what heat it craps out at....
Monday, 31-Dec-12 06:13:27 UTC from web-
@scribus Install and use Core Temp... it monitors Temperatures
Monday, 31-Dec-12 06:15:07 UTC from web-
@unhipdruid Is dat sum Windows?
Monday, 31-Dec-12 06:15:57 UTC from web-
@scribus uhh, its a windows program, what are you running?
Monday, 31-Dec-12 06:16:26 UTC from web-
@unhipdruid Ubuntu Studio 11.10 LTS. (Linux)
Monday, 31-Dec-12 06:16:58 UTC from web-
@scribus Ahh, i havent had that much luck finding hardware monitoring software on linux... but yet again i only looked like a lazy person...
Monday, 31-Dec-12 06:17:45 UTC from web-
@unhipdruid Hell, I've barely even looked. I tend to prefer the "change something, observe for myself" approach.
Monday, 31-Dec-12 06:18:34 UTC from web-
@scribus hmm, i like to monitor the reported statistics while i test me stuff...
Monday, 31-Dec-12 06:19:31 UTC from web-
@unhipdruid I porbably should do that, too, but I don't.

@scribus True, I was just thinking that the hotter the ambient, the harder the cooling has to work.
Monday, 31-Dec-12 06:04:55 UTC from web-
@eaglehooves That is true.

@robalien Just do your computing outside. That will work for a few months.
Monday, 31-Dec-12 05:33:25 UTC from web-
@eaglehooves my pc is fine where it is, away from sun, with about 4 fans inside the case, with the room fan on

@eaglehooves my, what a superb avatar you have there.
