Man what happened with this Unicon thing?
-
@ceruleanspark Apparently some issues with the staff of the place kicking people from hotel rooms. Ask Abigpony.
-
@nerthos I did some research, and apparently the convention /ran out of money/. Now there's some charity drive to bail them out because people are worried that if the hasbro owned staff members don't get paid they won't be allowed to do other cons in future.
-
@ceruleanspark How exactly do you run out of money in the middle of a convention? I know people who are in the bussiness of conventions, and you have to screw up big time with the numbers to do that.

@nerthos Separating out the facts is difficult because there are so many people spreading deliberate misinformation, either to promote other cons, or simply to encourage fandom drama, but the root of it seems to be that the location offered them a preferential rate if they agreed to a "pay for what you use" rate for space and accomodation. Which seemed like a good idea until some other expenses unexpectedly spiked, and caused the con to dip into the negative, leading to the venue (Vegas venues are necessarily merciless to people with no money) starting to kick their "non paying" guests out. That's the information that seems to be concrete across all sources, but it seems to be contradicted by a lot of people claiming everything is fine, so whether some group or another is pushing an agenda I have no idea.

@ceruleanspark Man, the convention scene's just turning to crap now.
-
@redenchilada Yeah. That agenda.
-
@ceruleanspark Well, so far it makes sense. It explains the unusual "run out of money mid-con" issue. Normally you can end with negative numbers, but everything is paid for before starting, so the consequence is usually closing a day sooner or something.
-
@ceruleanspark haha wow
-
@redenchilada Also the vendor lanyards spelled it "Vender"
-
@ceruleanspark Reminds me of the secruity shirts from CG.
-
@redenchilada Astounding.
-
@ceruleanspark Man, I wish the convention /I/ went to had some drama.
-
@ceruleanspark @ceruleanspark Oh man.
-
@redenchilada Pull a fire alarm or start a petition to get a high profile artist barred. Those seem to be the go-to activities.

@redenchilada Or accuse someone of a crime. That's the other one that keeps coming up.
