Do any of you guys know anything about joining trade unions.
-
@ceruleanspark They still exist in Europe?

@rotation My employer doesn't acknowledge unions anyway. I was more interested in the legal protection for things like wrongful dismissal than the collective bargaining capacity

@ceruleanspark Here you just basically walk to a delegate, or to your zone's office of the union you want to join, and ask to. They explain you what you need and what to do. IDK how that works over there.

@nerthos @ceruleanspark Also "My employer doesn't acknowledge unions anyway" How does that even happen? Here they're forced by law to let workers have unions or syndicates. Otherwise they might face jail. It's been like that since the '40s I think.

@nerthos You can join a union, but your employer isn't obligated to listen to them, so the union can't for instance, negotiate better pay for you.

@ceruleanspark Here the CGT (confederación general del trabajo, "General work confederacy") and to a lesser extent individual unions and syndicates every six months or a year negotiate minimum wages, benefits, boons, and other pay-related issues with the government and employers. Once the agreement is made both parts have to stay by it.
