  1. According to my friend here, whom I've been asking questions about what he thinks is the best feature of his iPhone, Facebook is "the killer app". Oh. Well that doesn't help me figure out the OS any better.

    1. @coffeecream ..... don't take average iPhone users that stuff. =\

      1. @flamingpandaomg I figured since he had been using his a lot he could tell me a bit about the things about his phone that he really likes. I didn't get much of an answer there. x-x

        1. @coffeecream No. I'd look into iPhone tweakers and hardcore users. Not your average run of the mill user.

      2. @flamingpandaomg That's probably a good idea... *shrug* Basically my HTC Desire HD is getting old, and I wanted to see if I should consider an iDevice if this one kicks the bucket. But I guess as you can probably imagine I haven't had much luck getting opinions besides online, and I haven't really used one for more than a minute to see for myself if it would be worth getting.

        1. @coffeecream I wouldn't, to be honest. I'm not even taking my bias towards Apple into consideration here, but iPhones are just ridiculous going by price, how little you can customize it even after jailbreaking it among other things.

          1. @flamingpandaomg Hrm. Alright. It's probably not a good idea to go post-paid right now anyway, for me.

            1. @coffeecream There's pre-paid that lets you get iPhones, at least in the US. Virgin Mobile has them, but a 16GB iPhone 5 is $550 before taxes. :/

              1. @flamingpandaomg add $100 for 32GB, and $200 if you want a 64GB.

                1. @flamingpandaomg Ouch.

    2. @coffeecream For most of them the best features seem to be the logo and the outrageous price tag.

        1. @coffeecream Go with android.

Sunday, 14-Jul-13 01:58:29 UTC from web
    3. @coffeecream I think the biggest thing about an iPhone is that iOS ONLY runs on iPhones, so you don't have to worry about whether or not an app can run on your phone, since all iOS developers know exactly what they're developing for. But they're super easy to break and so much more restrictive than Android.

Sunday, 14-Jul-13 02:14:24 UTC from web
      1. @zeldatra Hmm. I just seem to find it super-easy to break my devices and I guess an iPhone would be no different (assuming I never drop it, even). But I have to admit that something about Apple's devices still intrigue me

        1. @coffeecream As I have always said: if you like absolutely everything about iOS and don't mind the lack of customization options, go with iOS, because what Apple does, it does EXTREMELY well. Unfortunately, Apple only does one thing, and doesn't like people changing what they do. If you like to customize in any way whatsoever, go with Android.

Sunday, 14-Jul-13 02:21:39 UTC from web
          1. @techdisk Well I may have to consider that then. I can't say I customize my phone all /that/ much besides wallpapers and updated Android versions. Most of the stuff I used to use my phone for has been relegated to my Nexus now, though.

Sunday, 14-Jul-13 02:27:31 UTC from web
            1. @coffeecream Oh yeah, updates. Apple updates their phones in a timely manner and all models between the 3GS and the 5 get updates at the same time, a luxury which Android has yet to enjoy. (My phone still runs 2.3

              1. @zeldatra Nexus devices get updated.

                1. @techdisk But not all Android phones do, is what I'm saying.

                  1. @zeldatra I know

            2. @coffeecream by customization, i mean changing keyboards, and even toggles in the notification bar. the iPhone has neither.

Sunday, 14-Jul-13 02:30:24 UTC from web
              1. @techdisk Oh.

Sunday, 14-Jul-13 02:31:31 UTC from web
              2. @techdisk Not even with jailbreak tweaks?

Sunday, 14-Jul-13 02:32:16 UTC from web
                1. @coffeecream You can get themes with a jailbreak app called Winterboard, but other than that no.

Sunday, 14-Jul-13 02:33:21 UTC from web
                2. @coffeecream If you buy an iPhone planning to jailbreak it from the start, you should be getting an android. To answer your question, yes, Jailbreaking does add that capability, but android does it better.

Sunday, 14-Jul-13 02:33:40 UTC from web
                  1. @techdisk OK.

Sunday, 14-Jul-13 02:35:27 UTC from web
        2. @coffeecream iPhones are pretty pricey. You can get equivalent or better Androids for less, but if you're on some big name phone company's contract that probably won't matter much since certain plans would get you a heavily discounted or free iPhone.

Sunday, 14-Jul-13 02:22:25 UTC from web
          1. @zeldatra Nope. If you get an iPhone, you pay full price for it. Even if you GET it free, the price is added into your plan. that's how subsidizing works. Nothing is free.

Sunday, 14-Jul-13 02:24:07 UTC from web
            1. @techdisk Same for Android. It's just you will have to pay less.

Sunday, 14-Jul-13 02:24:51 UTC from web
            2. @techdisk Well yeah, but that huge price tag gets turned into smaller monthly payments.

        3. @coffeecream If you are worried about breaking things, that Galaxy S4 Active is coming out soon. It's supposed to be extremely resilient.

Sunday, 14-Jul-13 02:23:17 UTC from web
          1. @techdisk May look into that.
