    1. @mrdavidamnesia Mine did the same thing kind of. The alarm app just froze at some point during the night so it never went off.

      1. @flamingpandaomg @mrdavidamnesia I have one of these as backup derpy.me/t9h5q

        1. @critialcloudkicker I have an old android phone I don't use anymore so now it's my bedside clock and pandora/other streaming services device so I don't have to use my phone for that stuff.

          1. @flamingpandaomg But if froze ?

Monday, 16-Sep-13 10:45:29 UTC from web
            1. @critialcloudkicker That was my phone I'm using currently before I remembered I had the old phone. I'd use the alarm application on it and I woke up with a crash warning on the screen.

Monday, 16-Sep-13 10:46:38 UTC from web
            2. @critialcloudkicker Granted, that's the only time that the alarm didn't go off in 4 years of using an android device as an alarm clock, and I think it was a problem with the phone in general because I had to get it replaced after it went into an infinite boot loop.

              1. @flamingpandaomg Ouch, that has to sting

                1. @critialcloudkicker Eh. It got replaced under warranty so it didn't cost me a thing and it was replaced in two days.

                  1. @flamingpandaomg An old android phone had warranty ?

Monday, 16-Sep-13 10:51:43 UTC from web
                    1. @critialcloudkicker It wasn't old. This happened a month ago. Old phone - LG Optimus V, Phone that froze up - LG Optimus Elite, Current phone - Second LG Optimus Elite.

Monday, 16-Sep-13 10:53:53 UTC from web
                      1. @flamingpandaomg I guess that means you can not recommend LG ? Or maybe the exact opposite...

Monday, 16-Sep-13 10:55:02 UTC from web
                        1. @critialcloudkicker 1 failure in 4 years and 2 devices sounds a hell of a lot better than the small cross-section of HTC and Samsung devices I've used. (Now on a Nexus 4, which is LG too, so I'll get back to you on that in two years. :P)

Monday, 16-Sep-13 10:56:55 UTC from web
                        2. @critialcloudkicker I love LG. The phone freezing up was a rare thing. I would definitely recommend the Optimus Elite or later though, because even the Elite's a bit old by now (Gingerbread), while the V is Froyo and pretty low specs.

Monday, 16-Sep-13 10:57:01 UTC from web
                          1. @flamingpandaomg I must admit I am rusty on my android names... But wouldn't low specs be a bad thing ?

Monday, 16-Sep-13 10:59:41 UTC from web
                            1. @critialcloudkicker Yes. Low specs are a bad thing. The higher the specifications, the more applications and games that the phone can play, and the better the camera quality.

Monday, 16-Sep-13 11:01:19 UTC from web
                              1. @flamingpandaomg So lets say I am going to need a new phone in 7 months, what would you recommend ?

Monday, 16-Sep-13 11:05:13 UTC from web
                                1. @critialcloudkicker If possible, something along the lines of the Nexus 4. https://play.google.com/store/devices/details?id=nexus_4_16gb

Monday, 16-Sep-13 11:06:51 UTC from web
                                  1. @flamingpandaomg I know of the Nexus 4. But I am really afraid of the glass backside ( because of breaking ) and the fixed memory

Monday, 16-Sep-13 11:08:29 UTC from web
                                    1. @critialcloudkicker It's not fixed. It has a SD card slot that allows you to add more storage.

Monday, 16-Sep-13 11:10:00 UTC from web
                                      1. @flamingpandaomg You must be thinking of a different device - the Nexus 4 definitely doesn't.

Monday, 16-Sep-13 11:11:06 UTC from web
                                        1. @bitshift Never mind. They only mention that it doesn't allow SD cards once, but go on about how to transfer files to the SD card two sentences down.

Monday, 16-Sep-13 11:12:35 UTC from web
                                      2. @flamingpandaomg I really thought it did not had a SD-slot... Am I thinking of a diffrent budget phone ?

Monday, 16-Sep-13 11:12:43 UTC from web
                                        1. @critialcloudkicker No you were correct. I mistakenly thought it did because of a T-Mobile article on the Nexus 4 and how to transfer files to an SD card.

Monday, 16-Sep-13 11:13:38 UTC from web
                                          1. @flamingpandaomg currently 332.-- Euro for a 16GB one ( black skin ) ... If I am not going to be able to put in an SD-card I am pretty sure I am going to need 16 GB

Monday, 16-Sep-13 11:17:41 UTC from web
                                            1. @critialcloudkicker Wait, 332.--€ for the 16GB? They're £199 on the UK site, which works out to more like 230€. o.o

Monday, 16-Sep-13 11:19:25 UTC from web
                                              1. @bitshift @flamingpandaomg Well, In the end I am not going to need a new phone for 7 months. I think it would be wiser to look at new developments in the market then and there, wouldn't you agree ?

Monday, 16-Sep-13 11:20:55 UTC from web
                                                1. @critialcloudkicker More than likely. Android changes really quickly so KitKat might be out by then.

                                                  1. @flamingpandaomg Wait, a candybar-phone you can eat ?

                                                    1. @critialcloudkicker The successor to Jelly Bean is called KitKat, going along with Google's codename theme of naming their Android versions after sweets.

                                                      1. @crititalcloudkicker Also for completeness, http://www.kitkat.com/#/home

Monday, 16-Sep-13 11:26:09 UTC from web
                                                2. @critialcloudkicker Definitely. (Although the way the market's currently going, I would put good money on the Nexus 4's successor (rumors say it's going to be the Nexus 5, but that's in no way official) being a very nice choice at that point. :P)

Monday, 16-Sep-13 11:23:13 UTC from web
                                                  1. @bitshift What if around that time here is a HUGE difference between shops here, and the shops across the canal or ocean ( the UK and the USA respectively ) ... What should or should I not do when deciding to want one from there ?

Monday, 16-Sep-13 11:25:06 UTC from web
                                                    1. @critialcloudkicker Probably import, I suspect. I can't see how it's going to be cheaper to pay the same kind of price difference they have on the current one, and the phone's unlocked anyway, so there's nothing stopping you using a UK-bought one in Europe, or so on. (Hell, mine defaulted to US English on the first-time setup, so they're probably all set up identically.)

Monday, 16-Sep-13 11:28:27 UTC from web
                                            2. @critialcloudkicker Overall I think @bitshift would be better to ask for a recommendation on more up to date Android phones, because I'm still stuck with stuff from 2 years ago. I couldn't give you an honest recommendation since I have no actual experience with newer Android devices.

Monday, 16-Sep-13 11:19:26 UTC from web
                                    2. @critialcloudkicker (Hehe, backside.) I don't honestly think it's that fragile. And in any case, I don't plan to drop it. xD

Monday, 16-Sep-13 11:10:37 UTC from web
                                    3. @critialcloudkicker and the backside you could always get a shock-resistant case to help with that, but I'm never in any situation where the material the phone's case would be of any importance.

Monday, 16-Sep-13 11:11:14 UTC from web
                                      1. @flamingpandaomg Oh I'll do that for sure

Monday, 16-Sep-13 11:13:52 UTC from web
                            2. @critialcloudkicker You're misreading, I think - he means to say go for something at least as recent as the Elite, because the V had lower specs.

Monday, 16-Sep-13 11:01:58 UTC from web
                              1. @bitshift Probably, I personally always use "newer" and "older" when describing models. "later" is kind of a weird word I think

Monday, 16-Sep-13 11:04:40 UTC from web
                            3. @critialcloudkicker and the reason why I mentioned the Android versions is because Froyo is version 2.2-2.2.3, while Gingerbread is 2.3-2.3.7, and Google's already up to the successor of version 4.3. Both Froyo and Gingerbread are quite dated by now, so if you could find something that had Ice Cream Sandwich or later, you'll be much happier overall.
