@bassdriver If you're looking for just a short(ish) read - I'd go with Always Sunny in Fillydelphia. It's an AJ x Soarin light-ship fic. Doesn't really go anywhere, but it's a good retelling of a meeting of the two.

@bassdriver Yeah, it's not even a really shippy fic though. It's more just a day in the life of Applejack and Soarin. I enjoyed it a lot, and it made me appreciate Applejack as a character more. (She's my least favorite of the mane 6... though I'm not sure I can say the same still q.q)

@bassdriver Applejack just didn't really have any defining episodes in season 1 (unlike those that the rest of the cast had). As such she never really caught my attention as more than comedic relief (accent and line wise), and just a general support character. That's the only reason I rank her low.

@artrageous Yeah, but it wasn't really even in her character? If you know what I mean there. And the developments in that episode just set her up as hard headed and somewhat closed-minded (which she changes). Didn't do enough for me to build a character that I could see existing in each episode.

@haganbmj Hmm, I guess that's true. I did always think of 'stubborn and close minded' as being her character. Essentially earthy and practical, and not so great at knowing or accepting her limits.

@artrageous Yeah, that's certainly the impression I got from the episode. But everywhere else she's really just helping here and there and doesn't revert to that same personality again. Personal opinion here at least xD

@haganbmj I guess I just like her more cuz I'm from Texas, where a lot of people think we all talk like aj, but we don't. We do do the whole southern hospitality thing (showering twi with apples and apple products), and we have a lot of pride as well, at least where i am.

@mrbrown WHY? Back when I first was discovering ponies that nearly scared me away for good. That actually might have something to do with my distaste for fanfics. Any recommendations for ones that are well written and more of the lighter, funnier route?

@eaglehooves Lighter and funnier? If you have the same kind of sense of humor I have, I could point you toward "Hey, Let's Mutilate Rainbow Dash!" It's short, though, as in 300 Word Event length.
