    1. @herbalgreen for 60 bits a day? I need to get myself hired.

Sunday, 14-Aug-11 16:01:12 UTC from web
      1. @musicssound Well it's 10 bits an hour, and I'm working 6 hours. 8 hours yesterday, so it's a 140 bit weekend.

    2. @mrn4rmn4rm You'd get hired in BC. Minimum legal age is 12. A lot of people are miffed about that because young people tend to get abused a lot more than older folks who know more about labour laws/have more experience. I can understand the wanting cash though.

    3. @mrn4rmn4rm Immigrate. Although again, could be difficult at 13.

    4. @mrn4rmn4rm So that the draft doesn't start til 18. It would suck being sent off to war at 14. Seriously. But I don't think Canada has ever needed a draft, and I doubt they've drawn the connection. So yeah, Canada can be awesome.

      1. @musicssound I don't think we've ever done the draft, although there was agitation that it would happen after 9/11. There's also the distinct possibility of it happening if we get involved in another armed conflict because of the political party that's just taken over.

            1. @drewdle (sigh) I've never understood political parties, anyway. How can 2 clearly defined platforms, supposedly in direct opposition, take the majority of opinions in a country?

Sunday, 14-Aug-11 16:13:02 UTC from web
              1. @musicssound They can't. The problem is the Conservative party in Canada was formed by two other right-wing-ish entities and so now you have three parties representing the left-ish vote, but only one representing the right, which gives them better odds of winning elections despite them having, say 30% of the vote compared to the other parties' 15-17% each. If you add up the other parties' votes, the majority of Canadians didn't vote for the Cons, but because they had the single largest number of votes, they won. That's the downside to having more than two parties. Fragmentation.

                1. @drewdle Heh. But if you only have two parties, it's going to be fragmented on the inside anyway. So wait, Canadian partisanship is the same as approximately Civil War-era US right now? I seem to remember something like that happening with President Lincoln.

                  1. @musicssound Yep, that's exactly where we're at presently.

                    1. @drewdle I imagine that's actually a healthier system. We're currently too busy being idiots right now.

                      1. @musicssound I've been watching, and yeah, it's not looking great down there. The Cons seem to think we need to be more like that, however. *facepalm* As in, less tax you less and dismantle all your social services. Laissez-faire capitalismo.

    12. @mrn4rmn4rm Well, you're not at the legal age for employment yet, so it's understandable why you don't have a job yet. Try and get one when you first get the chance.
