Quote from a friend on facebook: "Fact: That was the strongest earthquake in Virginia since 1897. Fact: It was a 5.8, which is more than 10 times stronger than a 4.5, the point at which buildings fall. Opinion: We are extremely lucky that it hit Louisa County, a place where there aren't many buildings or people. Disclaimer: That's not to say that I don't care about Louisa. We're planning on heading over there later this week to help with damages and reconstruction."

@haganbmj FACT: when a dumb grapes starts a sentence with "FACT:" it probably isn't a fact. FACT: It was a 5.9 not a 5.8 FACT: 5.8 is not 10 times larger than 4.5 FACT: 5.8(the incorrect number) is 20 times larger than 4.5 FACT: 5.9(the actual magnitude) is 25 times larger than 4.5 I love the irony of me adding FACT the beinning of all of those.

@queenstarlightbolt I find it funny how everyone goes batmangoes insane over an earthquake. I'm from Southern California. You can throw a stone in any direction and it'll hit a fault line. I don't even get out of bed for anything under a four pointer.

@gear yeah well ppl have no lives, and atleast now they get a semi interesting thing to post as their status update.
-
@queenstarlightbolt Hahah yeah. 5.9 is pretty solid quake. Also, for that magnitude, it was pretty shallow, too.

@gear I had fun watching people lose their minds outside my window when it happened, you'd have thought the world was ending.
-
@colfax Hahaha, really. I work for the NPS over the summer and I cannot tell you how many times I freak people out by telling them "Yeah, basically earthquakes happen non-stop everyday.
Wednesday, 24-Aug-11 01:29:29 UTC from web-
@gear Yeah, they never grasp the concept of microquakes.
-
@colfax Like I was telling starlightbolt, I don't even get outta bed for anything under a 4.

@gear Well, this was a 5.9, but I just thought someone upstairs was moving furniture.
-
@colfax Oh you felt the earthquake too?

@gear Was born and raised in SoCal -- all this hubbub out east is hilarious. But then again, I hate tornadoes..

@mjtuna Ewww tornadoes. Gotta admit you guys are tough cookies for handling those. Where in socal did you hail?

@gear It's been two years since I've lived here in the Midwest and tornadoes still spook the hay out of me! I grew up in Lakewood - suburban city near Long Beach and the ocean in LA County. It's a world apart from here in Indiana! You? :D

@mjtuna Damn, that's quite a change! Born and raised in Joshua Tree. I'm living with my grandma in Oceanside while I attend the college there.
